Wunderground Rapid Fire / webcam capture ?

Post by Paul C »

I am trying to cut down my weather station software that I have running so I can just have Cumulus and Weatherlink. I was wondering if the wunderground rapid fire system could be added to Cumulus ?

I have rather got used to my home page showing the "live" weather updated every few seconds, especially when I am not at home I can quickly take a look.

Or would it be possible now with this realtime.txt that I could some how show "live" weather in another way. I realise I could just have the "banner" across the home page but the combination of the webcam image and data is invaluable. Of course I may also need something else to generate the webcam image as I also use Weather Display webcam capture ?

Steve - any thoughts on rapid fire.

thanks :D

Wunderground rapid fire is very easy, it's the same as ordinary wunderground, just a different server and a little bit of extra red tape on the update string. I'll be starting betas of 1.8.3 shortly, I'll put it in that.

Good man ! :)

I have found a free webcam utility that is now uploading to wunderground on a test basis
http://lundie.ca/fwink/

Simple enough but appears to do the job ok, I have lost the banner on the bottom that used to display the current weather, but thats not the end of the world

Many thanks, now have it installed and appears to be working ( rapid fire etc ) :D

I have now terminated Weather Display but having to keep the weather display webcam capture programme going as this is the only thing that I can use with camstreams for my "live" webcam, fortunatley its a stand alone programme. I think I have now lost my wunderground webcam movies http://www.wunderground.com/webcams/bra ... /show.html. Will need to think of a new way to upload images.

To be honest, Paul, I can't see that happening. Cumulus is a program for displaying weather data. I don't want it to become an 'everything including the kitchen sink' application, like some others. If Cumulus already made ftp connections to Wunderground, that would be different, but it uses http for the other stuff, so it would be a completely separate function.

Sorry.

You can basically use any webcam software to send a webcam image to Wunderground.

I use a package from PY Software called Active Webcam. It is a very powerful package, can use many webcams and some very fancy stuff.

I haven't been playing webcam for a while, but I fired it up to give it a test and it worked fine with the software that I use.

I have it updating once every 5 minutes...

I'm sure there are some Free packages out there as well.

My webcam software was a pretty good basic package, but I lost the source. I could release the binary, I suppose, but I can't support it.
