No worries about the speed Steve; we are all grateful for the site and the expertise it brings.
I'm sure we can all live with it. Keep up the good work. :)
Mike.

Yes we'll call him Bet from now on. ;)

Don't know anything about MySQL but did Google it and found this; may help...

I've run an 'optimize' on all the tables in the database - hopefully that will improve things a bit...

Mike, I tend to find the speed issue is related to the time of day more than anything -- be interested to see what you find. Same with the Wiki speed

The time of day will have an effect if your ISP's system gets overloaded at peak times but it shouldn't make a vast difference as the amount of data being sent both ways is pretty small.

For me I find it can be the difference between 1 or 2 seconds and 40 seconds around 11am UK time

Is the gentleman with fretless bass aware that his id has already been abused and is on at least two uncontrolled spam blacklists ?

Forums and domains are now routinely having genuine data trawled and used for other purposes.

And it is very easy for someone who 'wants to make it personal' to get enough bits 'n' pieces to make your life uncomfortable.

Even little kids are cyber-bullies now

Hope that's not me Bet, I post on a Vintage guitar forum. ;)

David; have you done some speed tests on your connection at peak and off-peak times.

I use TBB meter one of the best around.

Yeah. I've tried it at home and at work (two different ISPs and connection types too). At home I have 20Mb Virgin connection and consistently get around 19mb. At work I even got my network guys to prove that our own Leased line was not choking at that point. (I'm the boss so I can ask these things)!!

I've had a chat with Steve in the past, and I think it is simply the SQL DB server running some kind of routine maintenance. If I pull a simple HTML page from the site it is fine, but when you need an SQL connection (for the forum or Wiki) it dies.

It's not a biggie, and things get better after about 30 minutes. The main thing on Steve's site is they are always up :D

Steve and Mike.

As indicated by David, there are times of the day when the access speed is 'acceptable'. But, there are other times when the access speed is quite slow - from 30 to 45 seconds to load one of the forum page!

As of 04:20 PST on November 17, the access speed is quite 'acceptable'. But I know that the speed slows down drastically at around 05:00 PST. I shall see if there are some improvements in about 40 minutes.

It's quite a bit faster for me than it was at the same time yesterday (and before I optimised the database).

Well, it is 05:05 PST and the access speed is still quite 'acceptable'...

Will post more information if there is a drastic change in access speed...

Hi all,
I'm new around here, but have been reading these forums with interest over the last few weeks, since I stumbled across Cumulus. I fully agree with all of your comments about knowing who you're messaging and where they are in the world.

Cheers for now,
Graeme.
Cheers,
