A hailstone hit during a VERY fast moving thunderstorm last night smashed one of the cups on my anemometer (Oregon Scientific WMR-918). Wondered why my maximum windspeed only maxed at 38kph during the storm! Rain rate hit 374mm/hr and we had 13mm in about 3 mintues plus hailstones up to 25mm diameter.
I managed to find one of the broken pieces from the cup but can't find the other(s) so I've had to do a temporary repair with alum foil until I can get another anemometer. Still it appears to be working OK at the moment.
The photo of the storm was taken from approx 20kms away at my son's house in the hills.

Amazing stuff.
If you have trouble sourcing a part, let me know. My WMR928 probably uses the same anemometer, and it doesn't work any more, and probably never will, so I could send you the cups.

Hello WestOz,
I was sorry to hear of the storm damage to your WX. Something I have always been fearing, especially the way mine is set up, hehe.
On a serious note though, I hope that your WX can be restored to full working order.
Fantastic Lightning Photographs, Really nice.
Best Regards
Jason

Hello WestOz,
Sorry to read about & see your anemometer damage, it is enough to make you cry, (It would for me)
I love the temporary ‘bush fix’ with the foil
I really like the photograph of the lightening. Excellent pic!
I spend many hours during a storm to catch pics like that with little success, Kudos to your Son for the pic.
I have a couple of extreme weather pics here, might look for them and start a new thread............

May I take you up on your kind offer of the spare anemometer cups. I've tried here in OZ but I can only buy the complete Anemometer. Please let me know if the offer still stands and how much you want for the part, plus postage of course. I can pay you via your "Donation" Paypal account if that's OK.
