It was 230.6999... & I subracted 9.6 (which is the amount showing as today's rainfall) -= 221.599999... . It has now reverted to 230.69999.... .

Have I missed some step out?

That confuses me a bit, because I said this:

"To correct this, you set Start= to 240.3, so that your daily total so far is now 240.3 - 240.3 = zero"

And I even went to great lengths to explain why that was the figure you should set it to!
It has now reverted to 230.69999....
Did you edit the file while Cumulus was stopped? If you edit any of the ini files while Cumulus is running, it will overwrite them. And it won't use the values you've put in, because ini files are initialisation files, and only read at the time the program starts.

Ah - I am an idiot - I shouldn't try to do these things when I am tired and frustrated!

1) I did have Cumulus turned off when I edited.

2) I subtracted instead of adding!

3) Now the new day has well started and the Start= for todays file is 240.3 and the 9.6 is still showing in "yesterday's rainfall" on Cumulus.

4) Should I NOW (that I have stiffed it up more) give up and restart the whole system (station and Cumulus) or can you work miracles in the face of my mistakes?

Thanks you for your patience (or at least perserverance).

It's a bit strange that it reset the value then, because it wouldn't know what value to set it back to. But anyway, now that it's a new day it's probably easier to correct, particularly as I think you actually had zero real rainfall yesterday? Stop Cumulus and edit:

1. today.ini to set the Yesterday= value to zero.
2. (optional) yesterday.ini to set High=0 and HTime= 00:00
3. Nov09log.txt to set all of yesterday's 'current rainfall rate' and 'total rainfall today' values to zero.
4. dayfile.txt to set yesterday's maximum rainfall rate to zero, the corresponding time to 00:00, and the total rainfall to zero.

Start Cumulus and all should be OK.
