Editing duff data & Cumulus 2 upgrade

Post by adrian5750 »

HI Folks

The little FineOffset / Watson weather station has been 'playing nice' with Cumulus for a while now - until the base station and the remote head had a sulking session -
which was only cured by taking the batteries out of the base station (seem to remember I had this before... <g>)

None of this is Cumulus's fault, but I now seem to have some duff data recorded - for instance Cumulus thinks that yesterday we had the lowest max temperature (allegedy zero degrees - which certainly isn't the case)

I've been away from the forum for a while - so I'm not up to date with new versions and Cumulus2 - so what's the best way forward from here ..?? - both to correct the duff data and regarding upgrading to C2 ??

Thanks in advance
Adrian

Adrian,
Cumulus2 in only in Alpha format and there are not as many functions as Cumulus at the moment (no calibration for instance).
It's worth having a play with but it's not finished yet so keep with Cumulus at the moment.
You can have both installed on your computer and V.2 will download the data from the remote and consul, but only use one at a time. ;)

The lowest max temperature is determined from the max temp figures in dayfile.txt, so you probably have a duff entry in there for yesterday which you'll need to correct.

HI Folks

Thanks for the comments.
If I correct the entry in the dayfile, will that then get picked up by Cumulus
- even if it was not yesterday but a day or so before ?

Thanks

Yes; lowest max and highest min are recalculated at every start up.

HI Steve

Thanks for that - I'll have a look at the offending file.....
if I get stuck, can I email you a copy ?

I'm being vague 'cos Cumulus is running on the lan-connected PC in the studio -
and I've not figured out how to let WinXP allow me to see the contents of
the 'programs' folder on the remote PC from this machine... grr!

I seem to be on Cumulus 1.8.5 by the way - presumably it's worth downloading the latest
version, while I'm at it ?

Thanks
Adrian

Yes, by all means send me the file if you're unsure.

It's definitely worth upgrading to at 1.8.7, or even the 1.8.8. beta. But as with all software, if you're happy with the version you're using and the newer version doesn't offer anything you want, then stick with what you have. If you hit any bugs, though, the fix would have to include an upgrade.
