Run Cumlulus MX via WAN IP?

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

So, just to clarify, you want to get to the CumulusMX local web control interface via the Internet--the one that is running on your local computer at: http://localhost:8998? Do I have that right?

Edit: I just looked up what Meteobridge does, so I now take it the above is not what you are trying to do??

No not quite. I want to run MX on a remote computer when I am away.

Have you tried to connect offsite, i.e. not from your house to the Internet IP address? If you try to connect to the Internet IP from your home network (logically behind the Netgear router/firewall) the firewall will likely interpret that as a spoofing attempt and block it.

No not yet but I plan to try tomorrow. I've been house bound for a week due to an operation. I'll post the results of my attempt.

Hi,

This morning I was able to get out and try to run MX remotely at a town community center with WiFi. For information, I used my work laptop that has some locked down permissions. Note that I am able to run MX at home on this work provided laptop, no problem.

I tried starting MX three or four times. The first time, the cmd message says Cululus MX connected to my station but then errored out ( see jpg screenshot below). The subsequent attempts did not say connection was established (txt file below)

You need to change to the CumulusMX folder and start MX from there, otherwise it won't be able to find its required subfolders.

Okay it works!

My company laptop was the problem. I couldn't run it the other day on my Asus Eee netbook since it wouldn't run under Win XP. I installed WIN 7 and it ran fine remotely this morning!

Thanks
