Cumulus MX on CentOS 6.8

Hi,

I've been trying all day to get my WH1080 (actually the Maplin variant) talking to Cumulus MX on my CentOS based server - it connects to Cumulus 1 running on a WIndows box just fine.

I have installed mono (v3.12.1) and have got Cumulus MX up and running, but it just won't see the Fine Offset station (via USB):

Current culture: English (United Kingdom)
Serial: 486D07D9F9CA52128A9CB8F857B2BF73
Cumulus MX v.3.0.0 build 3041
Today.ini = data/today.ini
Last update=2016-11-21T18:08:21
Looking for Fine Offset station, VendorID=0x1941 ProductID=0x8021
sysname=Linux release=2.6.32 machine=x86_64
release not >= 2.6.36
Fine Offset station not found
Cumulus running at: http://*:8998/
(Replace * with any IP address on this machine, or localhost)
Starting web socket server on port 8002
21/11/2016 18:08:21
Type Ctrl-C to terminate

The OS on my server is CentOS 6.8, which has been fully updated via yum. However, I note that the kernel version is only 2.6.32 even after doing the latest updates, which is potentially causing the conflict. I've tried HidSharp.Test.exe and that also does not see the station. I can't switch from CentOS 6 because my server machine is getting long-in-the-tooth and there is no network driver available for it for CentOS 7...

I have checked that I have libudev0 installed, which for CentOS 6 appears to be part of the libudev RPM, so I have installed:

libudev-147-2.73.el6_8.2.x86_64
libudev-devel-147-2.73.el6_8.2.i686
libudev-147-2.73.el6_8.2.i686
libudev-devel-147-2.73.el6_8.2.x86_64

Any advice in terms of simple solutions would be much appreciated! I guess manually installing the later 2.6.36 kernel would be a start?

Thanks

Mark

The USB component that MX uses requires a kernel of at least 2.6.36 for hidraw support, and for some reason it doesn't think you have that.

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for the reply and the explanation. I definitely don't have 2.6.36 - CentOS 6.8 is still on 2.6.32, so guess I have to wait or be brave and try and manually upgrade the kernel...!

Fortunately I've got Cumulus 1 up and running on a virtual Windows PC on the same machine, which is uploading to my new weather website perfectly, so I can now take some time to consider my next move carefully.

Awesome software by the way - way better than EasyWeather - I will be making a donation for its use!

Regards

Mark

What if you set up an debian or ubuntu on a virtual, you dont need all the x-server stuff, just a basic sever install. It would be a lot more resource friendly than windows.
Worth a try.
