Problem uploading to WU

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Problem uploading to WU

Post by Will-NZ »

I have recently installed a WS3083 station to replace my aged WM-918 running FreeWX which is falling apart. I am still running the WM-918 and uploading data to WU. I have registered a new PWS with WU to upload the data from the WS3083.

I have installed Cumulus MX onto my computer which is running Windows 10 and Norton Security for virus protection. I have been trying for a couple of days now to get Cumulus to upload to WU without success.

Things I have tried.. (after doing searches on this forum and others for problems/solutions).
I have ensured the PWS clock matches the computer clock.
I did a search on the forum and tried switching off rapid fire in both WU and Cumulus as this seemed to solve someone else's issue with a Davis station. Has not helped here.
I have turned on debug and data logging, but notice they both switch off if I reboot Cumulus, so have just saved and left cumulus running without a reboot... is this an issue?
Viewing the data log in MXDiags after my latest reboot of Cumulus still shows that it is failing to do the upload: 2016-10-20 17:53:03.254 WU update: An error occurred while sending the request.
I have attached the latest log file from MXDiags.
20161020-175301.txt
I have now run out of skill... :?

The message quoted is all that is available to MX. But I suspect that the problem is that MX is being prevented from uploading by a firewall/anti-virus etc (e.g. the Norton that you mention).

Thanks Steve
My old WM-918 has never had a problem uploading to WU (still is uploading) so did not think there would be a problem there as I assume the upload link would be the same?
I will disable all Norton/Windows firewalls and give it a try.

But that was with other software which may not be being blocked.

Ok, after some hair-pulling and lots more searching, I did a Norton firewall reset on advice from Norton and this sorted the issue. Have no idea why Norton would have decided to block the upload as I am sure there are hundreds out there using Norton and uploading to WU... go figure!

Anyway, thanks Steve for the advice.
