Upgrade Instructions

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Upgrade Instructions

Post by sungazer »

I am sure this must have been posted somewhere but I have read all the FAQ and all the required reading and can not find a simple set of instructions to upgrade from V1.9.4 to MX on a windows 7 platform. The main requirement being that all historical data is imported to the new version.

Is it time to make the change yet?

It's in the instructions:
If you want to run Cumulus MX with your existing Cumulus data, take a copy of your existing Cumulus directory, and then unzip Cumulus MX into it. Alternatively, you can unzip Cumulus MX into new directory first, and then copy over your existing data files and your Cumulus.ini file, and any other configuration files that you may have created (e.g. strings.ini, twitter.txt etc). If your Cumulus.ini is actually called "cumulus.ini" you should rename it to start with a capital letter.

IMHO, it is definitely worth the change! Pretty much the same functionality as the old Cumulus you know and love, but with a much "sexier" UI - I particularly like having all the gauges on one screen, meaning all the essential data is easily viewable from the other side of the room! I put it off for ages, worried that I might break something, but I am glad I took the plunge and it proved easier than I thought.

Just to add, I made a complete copy of my old Cumulus directory, including data, (in case I buggered something up), and then unzipped MX into that.

I actually did try the unzip the MX version into the old directory after of course making a backup. I will give this another try I may have not fully made all the required changes needed.

After not upgrading on the first try I went back to the previous version quickly until I had confirmed the instructions and made sure I have followed all the steps.

If I recall correctly one change is the name cumulus.ini in Cumulus1 and Cumulus.ini in CumulusMX but the same file can be used as long as it is the correct name for the version.

Enjoy,
Paul
