Cumulus Support

I recently had an issue where my Davis Vantage VUE IP logger apparently wasn't sending data into our LAN, so Cumulus and the Weather Underground showed my station as offline. After rebooting the Vue, our router, and the PC upon which Cumulus 1.9.4 is running, and cleaning the contacts on some LAN cables and the miserable connector on the WeatherLinkIP, I finally had it working again..........for less than 24 hours. During that down time the Davis WeatherLink website reflected that the data was not coming in.

Today, Cumulus is still throwing pages of disconnect errors, and I've tried rebooting the VUE, and moving it to where I can use a different known good LAN cable into our LAN to bypass its usual cables into the router, to see if it was a cable issue. Still not working, and now Cumulus shows Error 32701 every time I try to start it. But oddly, the Davis WeatherLink website shows my data as CURRENT, and is updating in a timely manner?? And as near as I can tell, Weather Underground, who is always quick to cut me off if my data stream gets interrupted, is getting continuous data from my station all day long?? So the problem almost has to lie somewhere within the feed to Cumulus, but I have no idea what to look for. I have not changed any of the station settings in Cumulus.

I tried totally shutting down Cumulus 1.9.4 and starting up Cumulus MX (Beta 3030) in Adminstrator mode running on Waterfox 47.0.1. It displays OK, but it is not getting any data either.

Diags folder attached. I turned on FTP logging, but since Cumulus isn't downloading any data now it apparently isn't making any FTP logs, as I can't see them anywhere.

What should I do to try to resolve this?

The communication in Cumulus 1.9.4 is handled entirely by the Davis DLL, and the -32701 error is all the DLL says when it can't connect.

It might be possible to say more with MX - but the latest version, not the ancient build 3030 - if you turn on debug logging and data logging in Cumulus.ini. But it's probably just going to say that it can't connect.

Are you sure you are using the correct IP address? If you turn off uploading to weatherlink.com, does that help?

If the IP address is wrong, I don't understand how it had been working up until yesterday, as I have not changed any settings in WeatherLink. When we changed the IP address during your hosting updates, did that affect WeatherLink? If so, how?

You may recall that I had issues with the IP address for your server seemingly changing itself back after I had changed it in DYN's settings, and I had to change it a second time. Maybe something did that with WeatherLink too. But...... Weatherlink is correctly feeding Weather Underground. ?? I'll dig through all the settings once more.

Your router may have assigned the WLIP a different address, if you have it set to DHCP.

None of this is anything to do with the IP address of my web server. Your WLIP is (presumably) uploading to weatherlink.com, and it is weatherlink.com which updates Weather Underground.

The IP address and port number set in Cumulus are correct. When I browse to that address I get the WeatherLink setup window.

On a hunch, I re-visited the timeout interval setting in Cumulus which allows concurrent Davis VP data feeds to Cumulus and Weather Underground, which had been set to 4 seconds. I changed it to 8 seconds, and Cumulus 1.9.4 instantly sprang to life, and is now showing current data in real time as well as updating the graph pages.

Hopefully that fixed it. Perhaps my broadband internet, which my ISP has been fiddling with all year as they supposedly upgrade their system, has become too slow to allow the 4 second interval to do the job?

Yes, quite possibly. That's why I suggested turning off weatherlink.com uploads earlier, to see if that was the cause of the problem. Hopefully the increased interval will do the job.
