I'm a newbie to MX and can't get it to upload gauges or charts to my website. Can someone please tell me how to do it. Everything else works fine.
Many thanks in advance.

You don't normally need to do anything for the charts, other than upload the contents of the webfiles folder to your web site. Cumulus then uploads the json data files that are required.

For the gauges, you do have to configure MX to upload the realtimegauges.txt file, by adding it as an 'extra file'. There are instructions for what to do in the announcement post. You just have to make sure to get the destination path correct.

If you've already done the above, then a link to your web site would help in further diagnosis.

You don't appear to have uploaded the entire contents of the webfiles folder to your site - or perhaps not to the correct place, they need to be where your MX site is, in the directory called 'new'.

The gauges page gives this:
2016-08-19 14_50_40-gauges.png
and the charts page, this:
2016-08-19 14_51_22-charts.png
Edit: I see what you've done now. You've uploaded the webfiles directory and contents, rather than just the contents, so all of the required files are now in an extraneous subdirectory called webfiles.

Thanks again Steve.
I created a new folder on the website (cumulusMX). This time, as far as I could understand, I put the right files in place.
The gauges appear but show nothing. There is an error message at the top saying "Error not found" and a number counting down from 0 into negative numbers. The graphs show nothing except for wind direction and sun which try to.
realtime.txt is in the cumulusMX folder and is being updated via extra files. realtimegaugesT.txt is also in extra files and is being updated.
I feel I am getting there!
However - still making a mistake there somewhere ;)
Thanks for your patience.
Regards
John

Your realtimegauges.txt file should be here - http://www.saysarts.co.uk/wearweather/C ... gauges.txt but it isn't, so you probably have the path for the remote file wrong, you need to correct it so the file gets uploaded to the correct directory on the server.

The graphs aren't displaying because the required data files are not in the CumulusMX directory on the server, and your pages don't appear to have been updated for over an hour - did you change the directory setting in Cumulus to match the changes you have made on your web site?

Edit: Actually, it looks like your pages are updating (your realtime.txt file is updating, at least) but the clock on whatever you are running MX on is an hour slow - is it configured correctly for BST? Or perhaps you intentionally run it on GMT, so this is a red herring.

Do you have "Include Graph Data Files" selected in the Web/FTP Settings on the Internet Settings page?

Steve,

Yes, I run the program on UTC.

I can't find realtimegauges.txt anywhere. I have realtimegaugesT.txt and realtimegaugesT.txttmp. Where does realtimegauges.txt come from and what updates it?

Regards
John

PS Apologies for being thick about this! CumulusMX is a great improvement on the old system.

realtimegauges.txt is the file that realtimegaugesT.txt becomes on your web site after Cumulus has put the real data in it and uploaded it to your web site - assuming you have correctly configured Cumulus to upload it using that name, as in the MX instructions. Have you added it to the 'extra files' and put the correct full path and file name for the remote file?

extra web files is set to upload realtime.txt and realtimegaugesT.text to \htdocs\wearweather\cumulusMX. realtime.txt is updating but realtimegaugesT.txt is not and no realtimegauges.txt is appearing in \htdocs\wearweather\cumulusMX.

What do you have exactly as the remote filename?

You probably want: /htdocs/wearweather/CumulusMX/realtimegauges.txt

(note forward slashes, matching case, and including the full path and the required filename)

Did a reinstall of CumulusMX on the PC and a new directory on the website.
The website is fine, gauges working and all the pages except the charts. Blank charts appear for wind direction and sun hours but nothing else.
realtime.txt and realtimegauges.txt are updating perfectly.
I guess there is some file missing on the website - any ideas?

John

It's not finding the graph json data files - do you have "Include Graph Data Files" selected in the Web/FTP Settings on the Internet Settings page?

Yes that is checked on the ftp setting.
The json data files are all present on the website and are being updated.

In that case, I think the problem is that the web server is not correctly configured for json files. This gives a 404, for example - http://www.saysarts.co.uk/CumulusMX/graphconfig.json
