Scandinavian letter disappeared

Post by Christer C »

Hi.

A couple of days ago I downloaded and installed the Cumulus 1.8.7 from the Sandaysoft homepage.
Wonderful program, by the way! Many thanks for providing it. It works like a charm.

Today I downloaded the latest version (1.8.8. Build 863) and noticed that the Swedish letter 'Ö' (that's an o with two dots above if it's not shown in your browser) had disappeared from my website!
It worked in the 1.8.7 version.
The letters still work in the Cumulus display at my local computer, though. It's just with the ftp-upload to my site that they disappear.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Cheers
Christer, Sweden

This is my fault. The pages were in a mixture of encodings before, some UTF-8 and some ISO 8859. I've changed them all to be UTF-8, as that's really the standard now for web pages. You would expect this would mean they would better be able to support Swedish (etc) characters, but clearly not, in this case. It's probably something to do with the way Cumulus puts the text into the page - I'll investigate.

It's a bit tricky to fix properly without breaking any custom pages that people have written. I think I'll have to revert to ansi for now. Could you please try the attached templates (copy them to the Cumulus web folder) and see if that fixes the problem?

Sorry, there was some minor glitch with the new files I replaced in the web folder.
Now I got a strange symbol inserted after the value for the wind bearing.

It looks like this:

Or if you would like to check my web site directly.

Do you think it's easy to fix?

Whoops - finger trouble, I missed the menu item I was aiming for and got the encoding slightly wrong. Try the attached replacement.

Many thanks.

I can't test it right now since I'm not at home by the computer, but I'm sure you've got it right.

Home now, and tried it at once.

Ran like a clockwork. Fantastic!

Thanks again, and enjoy the delights of Manchester the nextcoming week. :D

All the best,
Christer
