Running From the CLI on Raspberry Pi
1st of all on Raspberry Pi install expect
Once installed.
Create a new script called updates.sh
#!/usr/bin/expect
spawn sftp YOURUSERNAME@YOURHOSTNAME
expect "password:"
send "YOURPASSWORDGOESHERE\n"
expect "sftp>"
send "put realtimegaugesT.txttmp realtimegauges.txt\n"
expect "sftp>"
send "exit\n"
interact
Code: Select all
That then can be run from CLI
sudo ./updates.sh
(Although sometime it does seem to hang)
Now to try it by calling from CumulusMX

Unless he has configured his FTP (or SFTP) some other way.
I think that "some other way" may be down to the fact that I rent a virtual server (very cheap, at 8.99 GBP + VAT per month) rather than just have my site hosted. Having said that, there doesn't seem to be any mention on the 1&1 site about FTP being withdrawn from hosting packages. I don't think that is a step they would take particularly lightly, and certainly not without informing customers beforehand. Perhaps it's a configuration problem at their end. Have you considered raising a support ticket or ringing their helpline to ask?

Well apart from not getting the external program to be called via Cumulus (probably missed something)
I've just notices the obvious.
A script will have to be done for all the intervals.
In turn removing all the FTP Files.
So each one will now be an external program.
a webupdate.sh
a realtime.sh
a daily.sh
I'm going to see how many typos I can make and see what I break, but I don't know what I've missed with calling the external program.
But before that I want to try and get the test.sh working.
I have my test.sh
Trying to call it with
Code: Select all
sudo /mnt/usbstorage/CumulusMX/web/test.sh
In the RealtimeProgram Box
I don't think I need any parameters??
I also do still have realtime updates ticket, but have removed all the FTP bits relating to that.

I was going to raise and E-mail support case, but that options seems to have gone as well now.
I'm not in a position to give them a call at the moment, so will try again at the weekend if it's still down.

I didn't have an issue the other day, and don't have one now. Do you have your MX logging beefed up? i.e: debug logging, data logging and FTP logging all switched on? This will help with diagnosis.

Yes they are all on.
Don't really seem to have much in of help.
I also can't seem to ftp direct either from a Windows DOS Command Line.
So must be my account.
If I log onto my control panel as well on 1&1 I don't have a section for FTP Accounts anymore only the SFTP Accounts.

I would contact 1&1 support. They're not too bad to deal with, compared to some service providers!!

What do you get with the rented Server rather than just the hosting?
The Price your paying doesn't seem too much more than mine.

I get my own virtual Linux server, and I'm free to do whatever I want with it - subject to a few restrictions such as not being able to change the kernel, and having restricted control of the firewall. That places a few restrictions on me - such as being unable to run virtual servers on it, and being unable to write firewall rules that would direct certain traffic down my VPN to my server based at home. You have pretty much free rein though. I use it to host my email server and Web server. I run a VPN server on it, which my home network is connected to, so it appears to be part of my local network. You get a lot for the price, with maintenance, data costs and power costs all included. No significant traffic volume restrictions either. I've rented it since Dec 2014 and it has been 100% available. I highly recommend it.

Sounds good to me.
Probably a bit too much for my simple needs though.
I just wish 1&1 also done E-mail support and not just phone support.
