Hello,
I've been using Cumulus on my Raspberry pi 2 for a while now, connected to a fine offset station. I just upgraded to a Vantage Vue (w/ USB data logger) and am trying to get it all going again. I've been browsing the Forum and MX FAQ for a few days now trying to get it running but I have gotten stuck and am not sure what to try now.
As the FAQ instructs, I have installed the 'CP210X USB to Serial Converter' for linux after downloading it off the Silicon Labs site by following their instructions:
1. make ( your cp210x driver )
2. cp cp210x.ko to /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/kernel/drivers/usb/serial
3. insmod /lib/modules/<kernel-version/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko
4. insmod cp210x.ko
I didn't notice any errors during this process so have assumed it worked. As I am working on my Ras-pi, I don't have the weatherlink software to check it. I've run Cumulus to change my station to a Vantage Vue, connection to serial, and serial location to /dev/ttyUSB0. Now, with the Vue plugged in when I start Cumulus, it tells me that it 'Connected to station', 'Downloading Archive Data', and that Cumulus is running however, when checking in a browser, no data is showing and all that is there is zeros.
Any Ideas? Any help is really appreciated.

Did you set your Raspberry Pi locale to the US? The default is the UK. You can do that in raspi-config. You might have to reinstall CumulusMX if you change it. Once I got to the point you have with my VP2 and RP 3 I got good data. It takes about 3 minutes for CumulusMX to download the data in the logger and show live data in the browser.
How are you running CumulusMX? Are you connecting to the Pi using SSH from a PC? If you don't run CumulusMX in a screen session it closes as soon as you close the terminal window. I assume you know all this since you ran previously with the Fine Offset.
Edit: I had already run my VP2 on a PC for a couple of years so I knew the USB was running in the virtual serial port mode. If you are not getting data I would still look at that as the likely culprit. If you have a PC you could connect up the console and and make sure you are running in the virtual serial port mode.

Re: Using Vantage Vue with Cumulus on Raspberry pi 2
Success!
Thanks for your suggestions. After looking through my pi settings a few more times with no luck, I went through the steps to setup the Vue on a Windows machine with Weatherlink and when going through the process I found that Weatherlink was not finding my data logger. I unplugged the console and removed the batteries and then the data logger. I put it back together in the reverse order and viola: Weatherlink found the data logger and connected to my station. Cumulus on my pi is now working as well. Guess there must be an order to attaching the data logger that I missed.
Thanks again.

Great to hear you got it working. If you haven't installed jank's start stop script I would recommend it.

You probably didn't need to install those drivers, Raspian has suitable drivers already, so normally it all works automatically.

I didn't have to load any drivers for my Davis VP2 on a Raspberry Pi 3. I just plugged it in and the native drivers worked.steve wrote:You probably didn't need to install those drivers, Raspian has suitable drivers already, so normally it all works automatically.
