Small display problem

Post by scotweather »

Sorry Steve I'm back and Yes I'm still using Cumulus with a max resolution of 800x600 and have found a small but annoying problem with the display of the Edit All Time Records.

The font size is too large to read the second digit of the dates/times. so what is being view for 1/10/2009 would show 1/1/2009.

I have a print screen that I can show you but its very large to include here but this is the link to it on my website:

Sorry to be a pain !

Kate

p.s. I downloaded the current version from your server this evening 12/10/09

Yes, I see what you mean. That does make it a bit difficult to use :)

That's OK. Actually, I do have a spare monitor here that does 1280x1024, it might be easier if I just gave you that ;)

Is that the latest 1.8.8 beta (858)? I was a bit worried that I'd accidentally screwed up the window resizing; does it still look OK (apart from the problem above)?

I've just tried it at 800x600 and the text fits, so what's different about your display? Different DPI, perhaps?

I'm on a laptop (old hp) as its the only computer with a serial port on it.
max screen resolution is 800x600 with font size set to small with 96dpi (standard VGA screen). I reduced the font size to 75% and although much smaller on the screen I get the same result when I try to edit the all time records.

I don't think I could afford the postage for a monitor from Sanday ;)

Everything so far is reasonable and readable except what I've mentioned above.

I just can't reproduce this at all, whatever settings I use, I get to see all the numbers. On my Windows 7 PC, I don't seem to have a setting for font size, and it looks fine at 800x600. On my WHS PC, I have a setting for font size, but it only offers me 'normal', 'large', and 'extra large'. In 'XP mode' in Windows 7, I don't seem to be able to change the screen size at all! So I don't really know what I can do. I can try increasing the sizes of the boxes a little, but it's such a 'busy' screen that it's hard to do very much with it.

Hi Steve,
Sorry for the late reply but I've taken the time to finally manage to configure the USB/Serial adapter thanks to a newer release of the drivers for it.

I have now managed to install, connect and run Cumulus under windows XP via the adapter on USB since the pc doesn't have a 9 pin serial port.

The only issues I have now is getting excessive outdoor temp and rainfall amounts being recorded in the today.ini and in the all time records. I've had a top temp of 50.9C and nearly 500mm of rain in a day no set pattern of time of day and nothing known interupting any signals.

Any ideas?

This does seem to be a problem when using USB adapters, the data gets corrupted occasionally. Cumulus does filter out some of the garbage, but it's not easy to do it all. I've spent a lot of time trying to get Cumulus to work properly with La Crosse station and USB adapters, and I haven't been able to get it perfect. That's why I unfortunately don't support that combination.
