Hi
Last month I decided to buy a weather station to use in conjunction with my amateur radio activities and opted for the Aercus WS3038, setting up Cumulus on my desktop pc was easy and soon had it connected to the www reporting to Wunderground and APRS but the only problem I have found is that I have to leave the pc on 24/7 to get the full advantages from the WX station. So this week I decided to look at alternative ways of reporting the WX and I have purchased a 64bit Raspberry Pi 3 (latest version with Bluetooth and WiFi), I have downloaded the latest Cumulus MX so what other files do I need to get the Pi 3 up and running ?

Re: Aercus WS3038 on a Raspberry Pi 3
I run a WS3083 with a Raspberry Pi 2 and CumulusMX as a second weather station.
My Raspberry Pi runs Debian Wheezy - as it works I don't see any point in moving to Jessie until I am forced to.
It's all fairly straight forward - esp if you have some LINUX type knowledge.
Install Debian onto your Raspberry Pi and get that working, check you can access it remotely. I use WinSCP from Windows to 'manage' my various Pi systems. Once you are happy that it's working as you expect then install CumulusMX as in the first topic mentioned by water01.
Take your time, read the instructions at least twice! If there are problems it will be caused by something you have or haven't done. File permissions are the usual culprit.
Once you are happy that it's working OK then you can start to experiment with the excellent start/stop script mentioned in water01's second topic.
Other stuff you may need will depend on how you are going to do the website etc.
You may also want to browse the various Raspberry Pi forums regarding running a Pi with USB connected HDD - there are users on here who have had problems with failing SD cards - less of a problem if you have a good quality card it would appear.
The start/stop script also allows you to take regular backups of your CumulusMX area but you will also want to do regular backups of the whole pi in all probability.
Enjoy the experience - they are wonderful little systems, tailor-made for this sort of application.

Re: Aercus WS3038 on a Raspberry Pi 3
Hi I've got an identical weather station and have just got Jessie working with a local web server on a Pi 3.
PM me or search my posts you'll see what I did to get it working.
Thanks

Re: Aercus WS3038 on a Raspberry Pi 3
Forgot to say that the RaspberryPi/WS3083 station uses MySQL Client to write into tables in a database that is run on my BananaPi/Davis Vantage Vue system. The web site is hosted on the BananaPi and combines data from both systems as needed.
The link in my sig should take you to the site and there is a block diagram of the setup in one of the pages.
