Simple Website gauges problem

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Simple Website gauges problem

Post by mckee105 »

Hi,
I believe I have followed all the instructions for the simple website. The gauges page does not seem to work. The gauges show up but don't have valid data. The top of the page says error "Not Found". The website is at: http://mckee105.atwebpages.com/gauges.htm. Any help would be appreciated.

The browser F12 console shows that the 'not found' is referring to your realtimegauges.txt file, which should be here: http://mckee105.atwebpages.com/realtimegauges.txt

If you have correctly configured the upload for that file in Cumulus, then the probable explanation is that the free web hosting you are using does not support the use of .txt files. You can work around this by changing the Cumulus configuration to upload the file with a different extension (.htm or whatever) and modifying the gauges.js file to look for that file instead.

Thanks for the reply. It does not look like my Cumulus MX is producing the realtimegaugues.txt file. Is there some option I missed? There are issues with my free website provider and txt files. They say they don't block them, but Cumuls can't upload them unless I put them on the extra web files page.

You've presumably followed the instructions in the MX announcement post for getting it to upload the realtimegauges.txt file, so the problem may be that you haven't configured the remote file correctly - it needs to be the full path as well as the file name.

I went back and rechecked things. There was some reading comprehension issues. I now understand and all is working fine. Thank you for your time. This is a great tool!

Hi,
My problem has returned. I can't get Cumulus MX to create and upload the realtimegauges.txt. CumulusMX does upload realtime.txt. It also produces a file in the web directory named realtimegaugesT.txttmp in real time. I have attached it FYI. I have followed:

"If you want to operate the 'standard' web site, you will need to upload the contents of the webfiles folder from the zip file. The standard gauges are now the SteelSeries gauges. Cumulus MX does not automatically upload the realtimegauges.txt file for this, so you will need to configure it as an 'extra file'. The realtimegaugesT.txt file is supplied in the web folder, use this as the local file. For the remote file, specify the path on your ftp server to the place where the html files are being uploaded, and end the path with realtimegauges.txt. Select 'process', 'ftp', and 'realtime'. You will also need to set "Enable Realtime" and "Enable Realtime FTP" in the Web/FTP settings."

Hi Again,
After looking inside the txttmp file. I had CumulusMX upload it as realtimegauges.txt. Things now work. Any ideas as to what is going on.

What settings do you have in the Internet settings under "web/ftp site" and "web/ftp settings", and on the "extra web files" page?

Hi,
Another update. Uploading realtimegauges.txttmp did not help. CumulusMX stopped updating it right after I started uploading it. Weird. My current values for the settings you requested are attached as two PDF files.

Hi Again,
Things now appear to be working fine (with the settings I uploaded). The only change I made to those files was in the extra files where I change .txttmp to .txt for the web folder file. I am beginning to think this may be a time thing. It works for awhile and then stops (which makes no sense). This being run as a service using srvany. I am mystified. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Sorry for all the trouble.

Hi Again,
All is still working. Should I expect to see a realtimegauges.txt file in the web directory? I'm guessing the answer to that is no as all is working and the file is not there. Very confusing. The realtime.txt file is in the Pc's website root folder and is updated in real time (as expected).

Cumulus processes (i.e. it converts web tags to actual data) the realtimegaugesT.txt file and creates a file called realtimegaugesT.txttmp (to avoid overwriting the input template file). It then sends the contents of that tmp file to the ftp server and tells it to call the file realtimegauges.txt (i.e. the remote filename that you have configured).

The fact that it continues to update the tmp file with new data suggests that your problem is with FTP. You already have FTP logging set, so a restart of MX (if you haven't done so since you set it) will cause the logging to start, and that may throw some light on the problem.

Hi Steve,
All is working well and Cumulus was restarted today. I will keep my eye on it. Thanks for sticking with me.
