Move data files from Windows to RPi?

Hi All - new here but have been using Cumulus on Windows for several months now. My laptop (old Acer) is showing signs of dying so I'm looking to move to a Raspberry Pi. I briefly searched for the answer to my question but just couldn't find it. Can I move (or copy) all of my data files and config files from my Windows installation to the RPi or do I have to start over and lose all of my historical data?
Thanks in advance,
- Craig

You can use your Cumulus 1 data, as mentioned in the instructions.

Thanks Steve. So if I'm understanding correctly, I can copy the dayfile.txt and month files over as-is? What about the Station and Internet configuration? Are those parameters stored in a file or do those options need to be setup manually on the RPi installation?

Thanks,
- Craig

If you want to run Cumulus MX with your existing Cumulus data, take a copy of your existing Cumulus directory, and then unzip Cumulus MX into it. Alternatively, you can unzip Cumulus MX into new directory first, and then copy over your existing data files and your Cumulus.ini file, and any other configuration files that you may have created (e.g. strings.ini, twitter.txt etc). If your Cumulus.ini is actually called "cumulus.ini" you should rename it to start with a capital letter.
I think the instructions are quite clear about the Data files and cumulus.ini where all the Cumulus parameters ( e.g Station Settings, Internet Settings) are held.

Ah, Thanks David! I presume this is in the "MX" help file? I have not yet d/l that version (I don't even have my RPi yet). I am just trying to get all of my tasks in line so that I can't everything moved over. Sorry to sound like I won't do my own research...I very much will. Just needed to know where to look ;)

All these instructions are in the READ ME FIRST topic https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=12908 including some changes to webtags if you use them.

I recently moved from Windows XP running Cumulus 1.94 to a Pi2 running Cumulus MX

I followed the instructions linked above and copied across my config and data files and I had 3 minor issues, all easily fixed.

1. My monthly log file had a blank line in it which caused issues. The extra line was at the end of the file after I moved it across but I am not sure if I didn't introduce that myself when I was checking the data before the move or if it was added when I copied the files across from Windows, but CumulusMX didn't like it. The first time MX was started it complained with the following errors
Error on line 3727 of data/Mar16log.txt: Argument is out of range.
Parameter name: index
Error at line 3727 of data/Mar16log.txt : startIndex + length cannot exceed length of string.
Parameter name: length
Please edit the file to correct the error
Removing the extra line fixed the problem.

2. My original Cumulus.ini had a section labelled [ftp site] and when setting up CumulusMX it created a new section called [FTP site]. This caused issues with the settings for extra files being ignored. The instructions mention this problem, but it took me a few attempts at changing the settings in the dashboard without it changing the ini file to work out what had happened. Once I removed the extra section everything started working.

3. All the time formats have changed with the new version. I had to go through all my ini files and change any dates to the new format

Old Format
[Temperature]
hightempvalue=40.2000007629395
hightemptime=7/03/2016 4:56:27 PM
lowtempvalue=-6.09999990463257
lowtemptime=3/07/2015 6:35:00 AM

New Format
[Temperature]
hightempvalue=40.2000007629395
hightemptime=2016-03-07T16:56:27
lowtempvalue=-6.09999990463257
lowtemptime=2015-07-03T06:35:00

You wouldn't normally expect to have to do this - only if the date and time formats on the new system were sufficiently different from the formats on the old system, such that the new system could not decipher the old formats. The fact that MX is now using ISO format (to avoid any future incompatibility) doesn't affect this.
