Disaster strikes

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Disaster strikes

Post by mcrossley »

The power supply to my rPi browned out and corrupted the hard disk this afternoon. No problem, I have a backup Pi ready, just restore the daily backup from last night...

Connect to backup FTP server - no files! I removed the disk and connected to my PC, there were some files there, the last backup that worked was 9th Feb - argh! The backup has been working fine every time I checked for ages.

So, rather than roll back to 9th, I'll try and create my own ini files from midnight as I have the Feb16 data and monthly.ini files backed up on the web server at midnight. Plus the data has been logged into the SQL database on the server.

Edit: all done I think, up and running again

Now to take another backup! and organise double backups for the future...

Everyone now hurtles off to check their backups! I must admit, I backup to Dropbox every night but tend to take it for granted it's working OK.

Yep, I'll be performing double backups from now on - just rebuilding the original Pi with the latest Rasbian Jessie Lite build, I'll copy everything over to that once done so it is ready to go again... Probably keep it an SD only install for now and think about an alternative (Banana Pi?) with SATA attached SSD longer term.

Odd coincidence. Yesterday I noticed my CumulusMX box seemed to be down (Laptop). Turns out the SSD completely died. "No worries" I said to myself, I have two backups (File History and a dir sync). Turns out I really should have checked them after setting them up. They each did one backup, then nothing. Lost six months of data. Rats.
