Gauges spinning / not accurate

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Gauges spinning / not accurate

Post by Aaron »

I have just installed Cumulus MX for the first time after my father in law showed me his setup. So I have it setup with my weather station and think it is absolutely awesome.

The only issue I think I am currently having and have done a search for an answer... But when clicking on the Gauges tab within the web interface. The Temperature and Other Temps gauges keep moving from -169 to 23.0 and immediately resets and starts moving the needle again. Any advice on how to fix this would be great. All other screens.... Dashboard and Now appear to all be accurate.
In Australia using celcuis...

No idea about this one - if the dashboard is showing the correct values, then I'm at a loss. Not being able to 'see' the internal web site means that I will be guessing at causes. Have you edited any of the files, or are they 'as delivered' with the CMX install. Generally though the gauges only display what they are given.

Mark, could this be that a very low refresh has been set as the dials always on initial display start at the minimum on the dial and then spin up to the actuals. Perhaps this is just doing this continually?

The default minimum is -20 though. Showing -169 is an odd number.

If MX is getting a reading of -169 from the station alternating with a valid reading, then seeing the MX diags files might be useful.

You're not running any other software connected to the station at the same time?

I deleted the cumulus folder and set it up again and the gauges are working perfectly now.

I too have have a similar issue to this but only on the Temperature and apparent temperature gauges. Constant spinning from about -229 deg C to 19 deg. C. Current temp is 30 deg C so doesn't seem to be spinning up to actual. Selecting different temperatures (eg inside vs outside) makes no difference. Everything else seems fine and accurately reporting the station values (running fine offset with usb to pi). I tried a fresh install (running on rasbpberry pi) but problem hasn't gone away. I saw reference to a refresh rate but not sure if this is something I can alter. The system is running as supplied.

Cheers

As above - seeing the MX diags files might throw some light. If you zip them up and attach them I'll take a look. Do you have any 'odd' all-time records or do they all look reasonable? I'm not sure whether the temperature gauge uses those, though. I'm wondering if it's due to a previous bad reading from the station.

Thanks for the feedback Steve. I have attached the files but I tried dumping all the data and starting clean (I only had the data there from when I installed a couple of days ago). This did fix the problem. Interestingly when I first brought up the interface tonight, the temp gauges were working normally without any changes from me but the rainfall gauge was going constantly from zero to close to max and just repeating. Dumping the data did fix this.

You're getting bad data when reading archive data from the station. Often, this means that you have selected the wrong station type. You have selected "Fine Offset with UV/Light Sensors". Does your station actually have those sensors? What is the model number?

Thanks Steve. The model is XC0348. It does have a solar cell for battery charging so thought this might have supplied the solar/UV data. I'll try the fine offset station and see how it goes.

Also try unplugging the USB cable to the weather station and reconnecting and restart cumulusmx.

The XC0348 definitely doesn't do UV and Light readings, the solar cell is just for power.
