RainThisYear reporting double

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

RainThisYear reporting double

Post by StoryOMine »

Playing around with the current MX build 3036 I notice that the RainThisYear figure is reporting double the actual rainfall for the year figure.

Example - January so far has reported 16.7 mm here on 4 separate days but the Rain This Year shown on the Dashboard and Now pages is stating 33.4 mm

The weather station was replaced 2 days ago with a brand new unit so the station is currently reporting 0.0 (as it should) and I can't see a figure of 34.0 in dayfile.txt so I can only presume the figure is being calculated somehow. Also tried searching the forum for a similar issue but can't see it raised anywhere.

MX is being run on a Windows 2008 R2 server, station is a Fine Weather re-branded station I amusing to play around with and this model has been in use since Feb 2015 and, AFAIK and can see, this issue didn't happen under Cumulus 1.

The FAQ has entries describing how the monthly and annual rainfall totals are calculated, and how to correct them, all of which applies to MX except any mention of built-in editors. Any editing with MX needs to be done by editing files with a text editor with MX stopped.

If the FAQ doesn't help you resolve the problem, please zip up the MXdiags folder and attach it, together with your dayfile.txt.

Found the problem:

In the settings setup screen, this is asked:
Enter a rainfall total for the first part of the year when you started using Cumulus

What it doesn't say is that this isn't needed IF you are going to be using ANY older files. By playing with MX first this setting would have been set but should have been reverted back to 0 (zero) when or if MX goes live with any pre-existing data.f
