Davis Advantage Pro2 , WeatherlinkIP & Cumulus - NO PC

Post by tri.stand »

Evening Peeps,

I am Crew for my local Lifeboat Station, I have also taken on redesigning our Stations website. I have a little knowledge but not a lot but research and 'experiment' with HTML and CSS etc.

My station are looking at replacing our weather station with another Davis Advantage Pro2, but adding the WeatherLinkIP Datalogger as well. The reason for this is simply so we do not need to leave a computer on permanently.

Looking at the WeatherLink site and the output image/info etc that we would be able to put on our website looks...Well, rubbish.

My Question is, how can we use the Cumulus system directly with out the need of a PC constantly running?

Thanks in Advance, Tristen

Cumulus can obviously only update your web site while it's running. It doesn't have to be running 24/7, but then your web site won't get updated 24/7. Cumulus 1 only runs on Windows, so you have to have a Windows system. Cumulus MX runs on Windows, Linux, and OS X, so it will run on a low power device such as a Raspberry Pi.

If you don't want to use the weatherlink.com site, there isn't a great benefit to a WLIP over a USB logger (not needing the logger directly connected to the PC or whatever being the main benefit).

Thank You Steve.

I mentioned the use of the Raspberry Pi, the sticking point for that was, none of us know how to program one or assemble the system. The WeatherLinkIP seemed to be 'all the work done for you' solution. But then we noticed the web styling element is just out of date.

So it looks like we could be looking at the Raspberry Pi again then. Does anyone do a 'Kit' so to speak, that would suit our needs?
