I killed the process with the kill -9 process id

Im sure it would do a clean shutdown.

kill -9 should only be used to terminate a process as a last resort - it's not possible to catch SIGKILL. MX catches SIGINT and SIGTERM (2 and 15).

I've just reset my console and still getting this. I have done a clean shutdown by ./cumulusmx.sh -q

then i'm still getting rain counter 234.9 ?

And what should it be? The rain counter is just read from the station.

should of been 0.0 because as I was resetting console we had no rain. now its 0.3mm as shown in the Jan16log.txt

The rain counter looks fine, it's the start of day counter which it compares it with which was reset to zero - at about 12:20, apparently. If it was already corrupt then you will have to correct it, just closing Cumulus correctly won't somehow fix it for you.

so what do you suggest?

Resetting the console doesn't clear the rain counter, it's held in the rain gauge. Resetting the console unless absolutely necessary is a bad idea as it can cause all kinds of problems with the data.

Correct the figure! Use the today's rain editor. Correct any other figures that have been affected (as before). Make sure you close Cumulus cleanly. Don't reset the console.

today.ini is correct.

[Rain]
High=3.60000000000014
HourlyHigh=0.3
HHourlyTime=12:52
Start=0
Yesterday=2.09999999999999
LastTip=2016-01-02 12:51
ConsecutiveRainDays=3
ConsecutiveDryDays=0
RG11Today=0
HTime=12:52

then I still got Rainfall Today 234.9 mm

No it isn't!
Start=0
This should not be zero. Use today's rain editor to correct it.

Should it be changed to how much rainfall I've had today then?

It should be the value of your rain counter at midnight. Just use today's rain editor to set today's rain to the correct amount (0.3 mm?) and Cumulus will adjust the start of day figure appropriately. You will probably need to stop Cumulus and edit (at least) month.ini and year.ini to correct the highest daily and monthly records. After using today's rain editor, make sure MX has written a new log file entry before closing it down.

Ok done.

changed values and just starting up cumulusmx and it goes back to 234-237 values.

I dunno what's up. I reset the console because it said the total was 234.7mm so I reset it to clear it.
