CumulusMX Anniversary

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

CumulusMX Anniversary

Post by PaulMy »

I think we are now exactly 52 weeks since Steve made MX first available to us, and for many opened a whole new world of personal weather station monitoring. Now 36+ releases and countless posts to investigate and respond, I wonder how many hours Steve has put into this! Congratulations Steve    , and also to the many folks, both former and newer Cumulus users, who have been so helpful and experimenting along the way.

And for those that are newer and are also enjoying Cumulus, please investigate/visit that orange oval button at the top.

I am now in my 9th calendar year of my weather station and using Cumulus. It has been an excellent combination, and to me second to none!
Enjoying,
Paul

I can't believe MX has been going for that long, I think I must have been late taking the plunge.

I agree Steve has put a considerable amount of effort into developing it, he is to be congratulated whole heartedly.  But with MX has come the complications of supporting multiple OS types, probably additional work Steve could do without

Maybe its time to create a new Wiki section on how to setup some of the Linux flavours for MX. Newbies could be pointed there as the first port of call. Any volunteers?

maybe we should just point them at slashmusic/Jank's all encompassing script https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13767 or ask him to do the WiKi.

On the subject of lightening Steve's load might it be possible to have more Moderators/Admin on the Forum. I would be willing to help as I am retired and have time.

Moderating the forum isn't really a problem, and I do have help with that. I think I should probably pay less attention to threads where it clearly isn't a Cumulus issue, but where they haven't read the instructions, or have misconfigured something.

There are certainly far too many of those.

Thank you very much, mention my name :-)
Since I am engaged giving a little bit back to the community by writing this small "start stop script", I know, what it means to "develop" a piece of software and also maintain/support it
My full respect goes to Steve and also some others who supporting Cumulus since years......Now I know, how many time it takes to do such things.

You can believe it or not, but I am currently writing a short step by step instruction how to setup a RaspberryPi that finally CumulusMX can be installed and run (not configured) .....it is not so much. But once I am ready with it, Steve will get it and if he is okay with it, he can add it to the wiki or wherever he like.
I think, for many poeple Linux is a new world and searching old forum posts often did not answer all questions. Thats the reason, why often the same quesitons are being asked and Steve is mostly answering in a detailed manner instead of saying RTFM.

but anyway....the Topic of this post is: CumulusMX Anniversary
Thank you Steve for such a good work  .
