MX Install Failed

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

MX Install Failed

Post by midcon07 »

I attempted to install MX tonight with no success. I had Cumulus installed and working perfectly for a week and wanted to use the data already accumulated so I copied the data files to MX and along with the config files. I used "run as administrator". Data logger was plugged in. MX was installed in its own directory C:CumulusMX. When I try to run the program I get what is shown on the attachment.
Things went downhill after that as I cannot now get Cumulus to initialize when I try to run it. I receive the following error message: Error -32701. I have the CP210 Manufacturing.dll, at least it is in the Cumulus directory. I'm far from the most tech savy person out there and probably should have left well enough alone. But I didn't and hear I am.
I read some forum posts about this error but they don't seem to apply to my situation though I could be interpreting them wrong.
Windows 7 - Davis Vantage Pro 2 bought summer of this year.
Thanks for any assistance.

Are you sure you have selected 'run as administrator'? Did you get the prompt from Windows asking you if you wanted to "allow this program to make changes to your system"? The error shown is what you get when you don't run as administrator, if you haven't used the 'netsh' command to allow non-administrator access. You could try opening an administrator command prompt instead, and running MX from that (Type "cd C:\CumulusMX" and enter, and then "CumulusMX.exe" and enter).

Other than that issue causing it to stop, it's actually working fine - it's connected to the console and has downloaded any archive data that was available.

Well I thought I'd done 'run as administrator' correctly but I must have done it wrong. No, I didn't get the message you quoted about running as administrator.

Do I need to delete the MX program and download the program again with clean Config files?
In the meantime I'll read the instructions again and see if I can figure out where I made my error. I'm trying to get everything up and running by Jan 1.

I did manage to solve the com port problem and get Cumulus running again.

Tnx for your help and enjoy the holidays.

No, your config looks OK as far as connecting to the station is concerned, you just need to get it running as administrator.

Do you perhaps have UAC turned off? I seem to remember reading something about not being able to run as administrator in that situation.

Sorry but I don't know what the UAC is.
