Cumulus Stops Working - Windows 10 64 Bit

Post by DavidHOLMAN »

Good morning

Over the last couple of weeks, Cumulus has stopped working and tends to cause other problems, especially with the Internet, of course it could be the Internet that is causing the problem for Cumulus!!

I am not sure why this has now started happening and it may be as a result of a windows update.

I have attached a Bug Report to this post.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks

David

There's no Cumulus code associated with the crash in the bugreport.txt, it's crashing in Windows code, apparently while updating the screen. Has your graphics driver been updated recently, perhaps?

Oddly, the crash handler identifies your system as Windows 8. It probably doesn't know about Windows 10, but it identifies the build as 9200, which is Windows 8. If you really are using Windows 8, shouldn't you be upgrading to 8.1? Or 10, preferably?

Steve

Thanks.

I am running Windows 10, so the crash handler hasn't yet been told about it.

'I' haven't upgraded the display driver, but I will see if I can revert to an older version if it recently upgraded by windows or something else.

I'm having the exact same problem. Cumulus has worked fine, with an occasional error, for about 2 years. Now, after I install Windows 10 a couple of months ago, it's failing every day or two. Task Manager can't even close it, so I have to shut down and restart my computer. Today, even after rebooting, Culumus won't run at all, so I can't even quote an error message. Help?!?!

It's unlikely to be exactly the same problem, unless you mean that you are getting a bugreport.txt file with the following in it:

exception class : EOutOfResources
exception message : Error creating window device context.

If you are not getting that, could you please start a new thread, as trying to help more than one person in a single thread complicates things. Please zip up the diags folder and attach it to your post.

If you are getting the same problem, then I'm afraid I can't say any more to you than I've already said to David.

I see that there's a major Windows 10 update being rolled out. Might help those of you having problems with Windows 10.

Steve - Thanks for the reply. I'll start a new thread when I resolve what appears to be a much bigger problem with my computer. I uninstalled Cumulus in order to download and install the latest version, but my computer won't download it. I did some experimenting and find that it won't download anything. So, until that problem is fixed, I'll have to put my Cumulus problem aside.

After I posted this, I see that you made a post 1/2 hour ago about Windows 10. Hopefully that'll fix things.

I finally got Windows 10 installed and was able to download Cumulus. Everything works now! I guess Windows 10 wasn't really ready for release, was it? Haha - Thanks again.

Is that just a 64-bit update? My 32-bit systems insist they are up to date at 10240. My 64-bit system was on 10240 too but it did download the new version when pushed. It's been at least two hours now and is just at 30% into the update.

It's for both 32 and 64 bit, but it's a gradual "rollout", and it's possible they are rolling out 64 bit before 32 bit.

Sorry for the delay - I've been out of town. Where do I find the version number of windows 10? I looked where they said - Settings - System - About - and all I see is a product ID of 00326-10000-00000-AA413. Nothing remotely like 10586.

from a command prompt (type in cmd in the menu and press enter)...enter the following:

It should retrun something like this:
C:\Users\Mark>ver
