I've been very lucky over the last year and a bit not to have this problem, but now I've got a spider making a permanent home on my Len!! :(
I've sprayed fly spray around the camera base, but a bit worried to spray it on the camera's body or lens..
Thoughts/ideas people??

I get them on all four of my external CCTV cameras but I suspect that is down to the IR lighting that all these things seem to have - it would make it quite a dry/warmish place for web building. My weather webcam is inside looking through a window at present so I don't have spider problems but the cats are a different matter! I clean the CCTV cameras with a long handled brush every week - but the spiders are back within hours. I would be careful spraying lenses - quite a few of them are either plastic or 'cheap' glass and can be damaged easily. Some form of enclosure without any handy ledges or sharp bits to allow webs to be anchored?

I too get spiders (this is Australia after all!) but my camera is in a case with a glass front so I can spray a surface spray without worrying about the lens of the camera.
Problem is that the surface spray doesn't stand up to the weather for that long so the spiders return.
Very long handled brush is the best alternative - my camera is about 4 metres up.

High voltage, low current wiring, zapping every 10 minutes....that might discourge them?

Spiders in Australia aren't exactly camera shy...

Reapplying the Professional version of Mortein Outdoor Surface Spray every 6 months during regular maintenance has proven the best results.
The Camera, Wind and Rain gauges are on the pitch of a roof, so the less time I have to get up there the better.

I finally got the little bastard(3rd attempt).
Sprayed around the base and onto a tissue to wipe around the casing....
Touch wood. I've never had a issue with the rain sensor and stuff, but in must spray around it again just in case.....
