I cannot get the files to upload. Help

Post by hydrocynus »

Dear all,

I have tried for a couple of hours and look for a solution but I have not been able to update the html default template files to my hosting website. Here is my setup:
Davis Vantage pro2 plus
Mini PC LIVA running windows 8.1
Connection via 4G LTE hotspot (the station is located in the middle of a lake)
I control the PC via teamviewer.
I run Cumulus 1.9.4 (connection via emulator USB to serial).

Hosting is hostmetro.

I have tested the station and cummulus for a month now. Everything seems to work and I want to upload data on the net. I have installed client FTP app (filezilla). I have followed the basic website setup. The hiccup seems to happen when I upload the default with extension T html templates.

I have attached screen copies of my configuration.
FTP files.jpg shows the files moved to the right folder so that they show on the website: http://www.lakesrus.com/Trafford/

Internet settings are in internet setting.jpg, The right path directory is shown.

Internet settings files tab is in internet setting _files.jpg.

If I click web update with the current settings, here is what I get (no errors shown). I do not get anything html files uploaded onto the right directing in the hosting site. Why?

"Logging in to metro701.hostmetro.com
Changing directory to /home/fgcuweat/public_html/lakesrus.com/Trafford
Uploading standard files
Sending html pages
Changing directory to images
Sending graph files
Logging out"

Thanks for helping! As a last picture, here is the setup I have, See last picture weather Station.jpg attached.

That looks OK in theory (you don't need to list the standard files on the extra files tab) but it may be that the ftp server doesn't like that full path for the directory. If you turn on ftp logging, the ftplog.txt file will show what's going on. If the server doesn't like that full absolute path, you will need to supply a relative path instead. What directory are you in when you first log in to your ftp account?

I would say it is almost certainly the Directory that is wrong. You should only have from /public_html/ onwards. It is after all the "directory" not the full URL of the site.

Dear all. Thank you for your help! The directory path was indeed the problem. Changing to /public_html/lakesrus.com/Trafford did the trick.

Now, I will need to modify the HTML script to meet my needs. I in particular have the project to use two old smartphones and use them as webcams.

Cheers to all.

Thank you! This is for research and most was built by my grad student. The online sharing of data is to prevent vandalism. The idea is that if fishermen find it useful, they will be less likely to mess with it. I also will add a georef bathymetry that I just made so that people can upload the up to date map of the lake on their GPS.

I need to have the water temp uploaded onto the website now. It is saved by cumulus (soil temp 1) but it is not read and broadcast as of yet.

My student also built a wet and dry atmospheric deposition automatic sampler using an arduino and an actuator as well as a rain sensor. It works really well. We can post the circuit and code if anyone is interested. It was on a low budget.
