Cumulus Support

Hi all,

I do like the CumulsMX webpages as they are, I use them a lot when at home.

I have opened up ports so I can access it over the internet, but unsuccessfully do so.

For whatever reason, the page cannot be found or the values don't populate.

What am I missing to get MX available over the net (it will only be me viewing it, not for public viewing obviously).

I don't recommend what you're doing, but have you forwarded the ports (8998 and 8002) to the machine that MX is running on?

May I ask how you intend to limit it to your own access as if you are not successful it would leave an open port that others could get to your computer with, which is a very dangerous thing to do?

My PC is usually off anyway. Things connected directly to the net have passwords and logs. Devices not passworded are things like pi's that are backed up with their contents.

8998 and 8002 are port forwarded.

I'll look into vpn then.

I port forward with caveats. I make sure that my port forwards are restricted either to one ip or a small range or cluster of them. This works out fine for me.

I use Teamviewer.

Another solution to have the Management Port of CumulusMX available through the internet, without giving everyone access is:
If you are running CumulusMX on a Raspberry Pi it is very easy to install a Webserver (Apache or nginx)

Open Port 80 on Apache.
Create a index.html which is doing a redirecto to RaspberryPi Port 8998
The folder behind Port 80 (or better https Port 443) on apache is protected with a .htpasswd file.
this requires all people to login with a Username and Password.
Once they successfully authenticated, they will have access to the index.html (or index.php Page) and this page is doing an automatic URL Redirect to the Raspberry TCP Port 8998

On your InternetRouter you need to Open only Port 80 and Port 8002 and NAT them to
Incoming Port 80 (443) -----> Port 8998 on Raspberry Pi
Incoming Port 8002 -------> Port 8002 on RaspberryPi

I think this should did it for all people who need to reach their Management Interface from the internet.
Btw: I am using SSH with Putty to my Homenetwork and the Webbrowser is using a Socks Connection through Putty
