Adding an additional page to my Cumulus website

Hi guys,

I've just got my station back up and running inside of Cumulus, and now want to add a webcam page to the site, that I will eventually connect to my IP camera.

Does anyone have a simple foolproof way to do this?

I've tried mucking around myself with it but not got very far. I've copied a standard Cumulus template page into a new .htm file, and added my content, then added this new file into the Configuration/Internet/Files page in the Cumulus software, and selected Process FTP and UTF-8, then put the webpage address into the 'remote filenames' text box (I'm not sure if this is right).

Cumulus is automatically creating some file in my web folder called webcam.htmtmp, but not uploading any edits to the page, as well as not tagging, (so my location/altitude/cumulus update time is still showing as a standard cumulus tag on the webpage).

Also whilst automatically uploading via FTP inside cumulus, the upload status box will give me and FTP error when I try to upload my site if I put my new 'webcam.htm' page into the Internet files window of Cumulus.

There's something I'm not doing right obviously but I'm not sure what it is, I've looked at the Cumulus wiki page and it seems so confusing!

Please help! :)

Sounds like the remote file path could be wrong for your webcam page. Are you able to switch on FTP logging, and upload the FTP log to this thread? If not, what does the FTP error say? Also, could you give a screenshot of yuor internet settings page?

You have to save the file into the same place as indexT.htm, then add a line into the Internet/Files as you have and make sure you click on the Process box.

So you should have something like

Local Filename = C:\Cumulus\web\webcamT.htm
Remote Filename = /public_html/webcam.htm
Process= Tick
Realtime= no Tick
FTP= Tick

I'm sorry you find the Wiki confusing. If you have any suggestions for how it could be made clearer, please tell us. Generally Cumulus Help is simple as it is aimed at absolute novices, and the Wiki tends to be a bit more detailed for those a bit more ambitious. From my own experience, I think we tend to read from such instructions something different to what they actually say, making incorrect assumptions, and thus more difficult for ourselves.

The main point is that "remote filename" is not a website address - it is not what you type into a browser. It is that part of the path/filename that you would put into a FTP client to select the file, hence Freddie suggests looking at the FTP log. When I started, working out whether to include a directory name was probably what I found hardest, but in fact my path matched the (water01) example from ever helpful David.

Thanks for the replies

I've since changed webcam.htm to webcamT.htm in my Cumulus web folder like water01 suggested

I've changed the name and location on the Internet files window in Cumulus so it now looks like this

Image

I've also changed the remote filename from http:// to ftp:// like sfws suggested, something I had totally forgotten about! :groan:

After clicking OK and waiting for the next upload, this is what shows in my FTP log,

ftp://benfleetweather.uk/public_html/ is the address I input into the browser, after logging on, and this pathway is correct, I've also tried manually uploading webcam.htm to the server, but I still have the 'no file or directory' issue. :?

Any ideas? :)

See Davids (water01) post again ...

You should only need the path from where Cumulus 'logs in' to your site.

Thanks

I actually tried that last night just after I posted, but still got the same error, so I've just removed the 'public_html' directory from the remote filename , as I don't have that listed under the main 'Website Settings directory' either, and now all is working! :)

Thanks for the help guys! :)
