WS1080 stopped USB communication - how to repair the data?

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

WS1080 stopped USB communication - how to repair the data?

Post by willyweather »

Hi there,
I'm using CumulusMX now for 3/4 of a year and it was working simply wonderful - a big thank you for Steve!

In the years before I was running Cumulus 1.9.4 and I was used to and had to cope with the fact, that the Weatherstation WS1080 did stop the USB communication approx. every 3 weeks and needed a full reset (including battery removal!).

Yesterday this happened under the control of CumulusMX for the first time. So it is much much better than under Cumulus 1.9.4 but still ... I thought this had been suppressed by some tricky algorithms in CumulusMX. :?

If anyone is interested - this is the MXDiagsfile :
2015-09-21_1951_MXDIAGS.zip
Now my Graph is looking like that:
CumulusOff.JPG
:(

The big question for me is now:
How do I remove the obviously wrong readings as e.g. -2deg Celsius from ALL my Weather data files ?
I know how to delete the actual readings in the data file "Sep15log.txt" but what about the wrong readings in the statistics e.g. yesterday, months high / low or years high/ low ?

Is there a Howto for this case existing somewhere ?

thanks,

Wilfried

Use the files from the latest backup taken by Cumulus before the problem occurred.

Hi Steve - thanks!

Seems to be not so easy in my case: the incident happened yesterday 23:20, so I can't use the backups "daily" and for obious reasons also not those from today.
Other than that my newest backup is from 20150907 (the time when I updated to 3030) ... so I would be loosing 14 days - right ?

regards,

Wilfried

It's unfortunate that it happened just before midnight, but why can't you use the ini files from the daily backup at the start of yesterday? You would only lose any highs/lows which happened to have been broken yesterday - and you could edit those back in, if there were any.

Cool - that worked ! :D

Thanks for the advise !

The only remaining problem seems to be the rainfall (9,1mm) which simply didn't happen today ...
But I'll dig into the .txt files ... maybe I can repair it but it wouldn't be a real problem if I can't.

Thanks!

Wilfried

To change today's rain total, stop MX and edit today.ini. Change the Start= figure (to remove 9.1mm, add 9.1 to the Start figure).

Hi Steve,
thanks for the additional hint but I read it too late (2 days later), so it couldn't be done in this nice, easy and convenient way any more.

So I had to do it the hard way (editing the file dayfile.txt) and was successful.

But when working on those files I saw other - ridiculous high - values like + 49°C on 27.Dec 2014 in the "Highs and Lows" section and wanted to correct those too.
This didn't work with dayfile.txt, so I'm assuming for the "Lows and Highs" other files are relevant...

I'll search the wiki, hopefully I'll find the necessary infos.

Thanks a lot !

regards,

Wilfried

The highs and lows are in the ini files in the data folder. In MX there is no way yet to edit those files inside MX itself, you have to stop MX and edit them manually.

hmmm, thanks for the hint. Removed the ridiculous High Values for the temperature - this was easy.
But what else should I set there ? Took 0,0 °C.
I hoped that CumulsMX would take the highest value from dayfile.txt at restart, but obviously it took the highest value from today...

Checked also the wiki about that things but haven't been succesful yet.

It would slow down the startup to scan dayfile.txt for all of the highs and lows every time - this is why they are held in separate files. Until MX has the same editors that Cumulus 1 has, you would need to find the highs and lows from dayfile.txt manually. Normally, you might expect to spot invalid new records shortly after they occur, in which case you can easily restore the previous record (either by using one of the backup files, or by looking at the entries in alltimelog.txt).

yes, understood.

So I will do it the hard way again, i.e. work on the dayfile.txt with Excel and find out the real Highs manually so that I can insert them.

Thanks, Steve!
