Strange reaction after power outage

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Strange reaction after power outage

Post by gluepack »

I had several longish and rapid power losses over a couple of hours. My UPS's kept all systems then just my MX machine and internet up for a while.
When the power stabilized I checked my MX system (Win 7 Pro) and there was a Windows system error implying it couldn't start but Windows would do a restore (not disturbing user data), so I let it do it. MX started (auto) when Windows came up, along with TeamViewer and my browser with website and MX console.
However, the console didn't show data. You would expect that, perhaps, while MX was recovering data from the weather console but it had only been down for 45 minutes and that shouldn't take long (it doesn't usually) but three minutes later and still nothing (and website was still showing 45 minutes earlier, when MX had eventually gone down) so I shut MX down.
I looked at the diags file and the only thing unusual (for me), was that it was going back four days with "Read logger entry."
So, I restarted MX and 3-4 minutes later still nothing displayed and then suddenly it popped up.
In checking the new diags file, it had taken four minutes to read logger entries.
This is the first (I think) time that I have had any significant power outage with MX but I have had had much longer ones previously with Cumulus and I don't remember it taking that long to recover (I used to have a little flashing green light to watch, too, instead of wondering what was going on ;) ), it was about eight minutes in total to get back to current data and, not that I have noticed before but, does it really have to go back through 5 days worth of console logs?

p.s. while I am about it and completely off topic, is it my monitor or your font (I haven't checked my other systems yet) but all the upper case W's in this post are blurred (just looked at my laptop and they are fine).

Very hard to say anything without the relevant diags files, sorry. Sounds like something was corrupted.

The green light in Cumulus 1 only flashes when a record has been broken. I may add some kind of download progress indicator to the UI in MX at some point, if I can work out a way to do it and find the time.

No idea about the font, something to do with your PC probably. Perhaps your monitor is not running at its native resolution.

Yes, but the 'catch up' light (if catch up is enabled and required) is only indirectly related to the downloading of logger data, and the catch up period will typically continue for a significant time after the downloading of logger data has completed - it indicates that web sites such as WU are being updated with the previously downloaded logger data. There is no light in Cumulus 1 which reflects the period during which logger data is being downloaded, this is indicated by the pop-up window. In MX, it is indicated by the messages at the command line.
