noob with a few questions

Ok, I have Cumulus MX running on a Raspberry pi and I am able to access it on my lan via ip / port 8998. It works great when I do this. I tried to open port 8998 on my router so I can access it from the internet and I get the page template but no data just dashes where the data should be. Not sure how to make it work outside my network as inside my network.
Do I have to create a separate web site and have cumulus load the data to that?

Looking at the files, it looks like Cumulus saves all the data in csv and other text files. I also see there is a MySQL option so I guess it can load all the data from those text files into a db. Is there a help file or anything that could tell me more about that?

Thanks Mike

You would have to also open up the web sockets port (8002 by default). Note that opening up the user interface to the internet would then allow anyone on the internet to access and change your settings, unless you took other steps to prevent access. The user interface is not a web site, it just looks like one. See discussions about this elsewhere in the forum. See the wiki for how to set up a proper web site with Cumulus.

There is some information in the announcements thread in the post where I announced the MySQL facility (build 3025). The formats of the log files are in the wiki.

Thanks Steve. I will search in those locations. One more thing, if I set up a new website using those instructions, will it still give those same fast updates? My wind speed and direction update about every 3 or 4 seconds looking at it on port 8998.

The standard web site is static html, intended to be upload every few minutes. The file which drives the steelseries gauges can be uploaded every few seconds, and the gauges set to read the file at the same interval. There are numerous third-party web site templates available, some of which use Ajax to fetch a file every few seconds and update 'text' displays. Pretty much anything you want to do is possible, it's up to you. There is information about this in the wiki, in the forum, and in the downloads section.
