Davis Vue Computer Connectivity Issue

Hi guys, I've posted on here before and got some great responses so I decided I would see if you could help with a new problem I'm having. I bought my parents a Vue almost a year ago and had them up and running for a while but their computer died a few months ago. Being 2.5 hours away and my parents not very computer savvy, I decided to get myself a new computer and just let them have my old one that I was running Cumulus through for my Vue. The computer is an Acer A0765, 64 bit OS with 2GB Ram (1.84 usable) and I was using COM port 3 for my station, so I left that the same and had my Dad use the same port on the machine. I updated all the station configuration settings and internet settings in Cumulus to reflect their ID and passwords for wunderground and sent the computer home with my Dad a few weeks ago. I had hoped he could just plug their station into the computer, fire up Cumulus and it would start reading to wunderground, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. He gets the -32701 Initialization Error each time, and we've made sure the internet is connected, along with all the settings to be correct.

I'm making a trip to my parents way this weekend and am hoping to get their station back online. Does anything come to mind right off that I should try before starting from scratch? I also currently have their computer in my possession if there's anything I could do to it before I get to my parents. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Devin

You don't say what type of weatherlink it is, but if it's a USB weatherlink, perhaps the drivers are no longer creating the virtual serial port as COM3 for some reason. You would need to check in device manager.

My Vue is a USB weatherlink, same as the one I bought for my parents. The computer has 3 USB ports, and I made sure his station was plugged into the same port as my station along with keeping the COM port number in Cumulus the same.
