IP address change and error?

I run Cumulus with a Davis Vantage Pro 2 with a data logger. In the past, I had frequent electric outages. I would than have to reboot my PC and Windows, and Cumulus would no longer accept the current entered IP address. The only way I could determine a working IP address was to go into my WeatherLink software and find the IP address given there. I could not find any other method to determine an IP address that Cumulus would accept. Subsequently, I added a UPS system to back up my PC, data logger, and router. This has decreased the need to reboot Cumulus along, with going into WeatherLink to get the current working IP address.

However, this afternoon, I returned home to find that Cumulus again had stopped running. I again found the new IP address in WeatherLink, rebooted Cumulus and it is presently working correctly.

My problem is...my UPS hardware keeps a record of any power outages that it has to supplement, even for a millisecond. It recorded no power losses and the PC and Windows had not shutdown.
But somehow a new IP address had been created, so Cumulus no longer would operate.

If WeatherLink can determine the working IP address automatically, is there a way to allow Cumulus to determine the changed IP address automatically?

The admin interface in your router will show you what IP address your WLIP is currently using. But is there some reason that you haven't assigned a fixed IP address to the logger? It will work much better that way.

Alternatively, you can use the logger's MAC address (Device ID) instead of its IP address. I have only recently had access to a WLIP, so have been unable to try this, but I have just done so and can confirm that it works. Whether or not it works for you may depend on exactly how your network is set up.
