Secure FTP - Explicit over TLS

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Secure FTP - Explicit over TLS

Post by bzncrew »

I'm using MX and trying to configure website uploading.
Is it possible to connect via a TLS connection? My host will not allow unencrypted logins.

I see 2 solutions if Cumulus will not support encrypted FTP.

1) Use an external program to upload the data file. Not sure if Raspberry Linux has a command line FTP to do this. I've used Winscp in these cases on Win boxes.
2) Upload to another website (like a free one) and point the HTML files to read the data from there.

Thanks,

The FTP component I use in MX does support FTP over TLS, so I will look at adding it at some point. It doesn't look hard to do.

Thanks, that would be a great addition.

So in the meantime, I guess I'm on my own to push files up to my FTP/Website.

What non-static files need to be uploaded to the Webhost?

Until cmx is updated or not, Curl supports TLS from the command line.

cURL looks like a good tool for the job. Now what files need to be copied to my webhost and where are they?

For the 'standard' web site, the nine .htm files as supplied in the 'web' directory, but with 'T' removed from their names (Cumulus processes the 'T' files to produce the files with the actual data, in the same directory). Also the realtimegauges.txt file for the gauges as described in the instructions, plus eleven .json files which Cumulus creates in the top level directory (that is, the one it's been installed in), for the graphs:

"graphconfig.json", "tempdata.json", "pressdata.json", "winddata.json", "wdirdata.json", "humdata.json", "raindata.json", "solardata.json", "dailyrain.json", "sunhours.json", "dailytemp.json"

Thanks,

My original idea is too complicated. I don't think this is a good idea for my host. My web host will blacklist my IP if it sees too many weird logins.
So I'll just host it on a free site and forward the URL from my site to this one.
