Re: Can Cumulus damage the Instromet Data Logger.

It's just the same as before, no response - or no recognisable response, at least. It also seems that the command to advance the log pointer is having no effect, as the count of available logs just keeps going up.

I've added a little more diagnostic logging, just to make sure that nothing at all is coming back in response to the 'read log' command, so can I ask you to please install again from http://nybbles.co.uk/downloads/CumulusSetup.zip and try setting ImetWaitTime to 1000, then let me have the diags file again afterwards.

I've seen this before, and the use of the 'regress logs' command by Cumulus was blamed. Cumulus is no longer using that command. It would be useful, though, if some kind of full hardware reset could be done, but I don't know how you do that - presumably disconnecting the mains power doesn't do it, I think the logger has battery backup?

OK.
I'm at home, working remotely.
(I'm formally on leave, but...)
The data logger has no power backup, another weakness normally.
I've asked Richard about powering down to reset.

Done, as before.
Data transfer window open noticeably longer.
No colour in progress bar.
Data before and after, not during Closed period.
Richard sez powering down will not work, there's a capacitor to maintain some settings, but has sent a possible Hypertext for W7 to reset the logger.
I have to go out, I'll try it later.

Here it is.

Are you likely to be able to overcome the Sleep / Lock effect?
I am having a local problem that the PC Sleeps although I have changed to Power Plan to try and prevent it.

In general it would take a lot of work to cater for the PC sleeping and wouldn't be reliable anyway.

29/07/2015 06:15:00.344 : Get next log - RDLG,1
29/07/2015 06:15:01.344 : response=RDLG,1

>
29/07/2015 06:15:01.344 : data=
29/07/2015 06:15:01.344 : Error in earliest timestamp, unable to process logger data

The logger is echoing the command but not returning any data. It still says there are 22044 logs available, so presumably you haven't been able to reset it?

I have just tried an edition of HyperTerminal suggested by Richard, and am waiting to see if it has achieved anything.

Looks good so far. Could you try letting Cumulus run for a while - a couple of hours, say, and then closing it for half an hour and starting it up again? And then let me have the diags file from when you start it up again.

OK.
I shall be at home then, which will be differently interesting.
I might Close it when I leave, and Open when I get home.

Now I have to try and prevent the PC Sleeping or Locking.
Open the Control Panel, click on Power Options, click on Change Plan Settings, Click on Change Advanced Power Settings and in the window that opens expand every + (plus) sign until you get to the bottom of the tree and set it to Never or disable whichever is appropriate. Make sure you do them all as there are lots of options, also make sure you do the USB Settings.

Then click on Apply and OK your way out of the dialogue.

USB should also be done in the Device Manager, right clicking on each Hub, selecting Properties, and then making sure in the Properties window that "Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" is unticked.

Also to stop the laptop Hibernating and remove hyberfile.sys, open a Command window with Administration rights and type

powercfg.exe /hibernate off

press return and close the window.

Thank you.
I'm using COM1, not USB, if that makes any difference?
