Cumulus MX - Wow !

For several personal reasons I've not been around this forum for some time, however now I've relocated my station I thought I would check back to reminde me how to set up Cumulus and what did I find --- MX !!

Steve I take my hat off to you, the work you have done is very impressive. I seem to remember a PM conversation years back where you liked the dials used on some other application that was sadly out of your budget at the time. Not sure if it was that package you have used, but I love the look and feel of the new version.

However (and I confess I've not looked through the forum to see if these points have already been raised) I have a few comments.

1) - when launched the DOS box running the server is always visible, and can only be closed down to the task bar. Maybe once started it could dissapear but still run as a service in the background.
2) - Dynamic window - when I click on the middle button on my browser to place it into a window rather than full screen the dials etc remain the same size - it would be nice if the page would scale so it could fit the window.
3) - layout - I have a 24" minitor which is quite common these days, yet there are two large black borders on all pages. Iif there was a way that MX could detact the space available and take advantage of it the layout would be impreved and everything would be visible without the need for scrolling.

Personally I would like MX to have it's own custom browser so it looks like a standalone application as I often close the browser down whilst doing other things. Having MX running in a window the same size as previous versions of Cumulus would make things easier for me.

But having said that it was a nice shock / suprise to see how far this application has now come - well done Steve

It's possible that at some point I'll build in the option to run as a service/daemon.

The gauges are Mark's SteelSeries gauges - see that section of the forum for more details. I'm not sure whether it's possible to make them auto-resize, you would need to read the documentation for the gauges.

Part of the reason for having the UI run in a browser is so that users can configure the display exactly to their needs - it's effectively a web site. The 'interface' folder contains the UI files. Note that the UI is already 'responsive', i.e it adapts to the screen resolution, but mainly 'downwards'. It uses standard components, so if you wanted to modify the supplied UI rather than write your own from scratch, you could look at the documentation for the components that it uses, in particular Bootstrap, which is the framework which makes it responsive. You can change it so it has more columns and hence uses more of the width of the screen by changing the HTML. I like it the way it is - and I have 27" monitors.

I won't be writing a dedicated browser for Cumulus.
