I am experiencing a similar problem. Cumulus MX was working just fine until I restored an Acronis image. Now if I open any browser with Cumulus I get ‘Port 8998 connection closed’. I have no idea why this should suddenly be happening. ‘Dashboard’, ‘Now’, and ‘Gauges’ pages all return this problem, the other pages seem to work fine. I'm running Windows 10 64 bit.

Problem with firewall settings? Browser on same machine? And answers to questions previously asked in this thread may help.

I've uploaded build 3032 which has the option to use Ajax instead of websockets, so those of you having port 8998 problems might want to give it a try.

Found out the problem on my PC, a programme called WInPrivacy that I have installed was blocking Cumulus. All aspects of Cumulus are now functioning.
