Cumulus 1 and Cumulus MX sharing a serial port?

The realtimegauges.txt file isn't on the server at the place the gauges are looking for them, which is here - http://home.comcast.net/~pcalleros/weat ... gauges.txt.

Perhaps you need a path for the remote file?

Thank-you Steve. The Gauges display is working fine.

I FTP'd to the webserver and saw the uploaded files on the root directory.

I manually did a quickie test FTPing the file over.

I changed it to the right directory and all is well.

I assumed that it was getting it's directory from the Settings / Internet Settings / WebFTPSite.

Free for 32 bit and a samml cost for 64bit.

Somewhere here I am not doing this correctly. I manually moved the file named realtimegauges.txt to the root directory of the web server and it works fine. Only it has never changed. The rest of the Cumulus stuff appears to be just fine.

So I am stuck here a bit and getting frustrated. This file has never changed for whatever reason since I have manually copied it.

That's fine for the WMR928, where the protocol just requires listening for the data, but not for other stations which have an 'interactive' protocol.

Pete, I suspect your path is still wrong; putting a slash on the front means that the weather3 directory is in the root directory, which it probably isn't.

Yes; my FTP configured uploaded directory is /weather3

So I am guessing that I do not need to put anything in front of the file name as it is supposed to FTP directly to that directory.

I apologize as I am confusing myself doing this.

It almost looks like the process piece isn't processing? I do not see anything out of the ordinary in the mxdiagnostic logs.

The ftp logs are showing: (curious where realtime.txttmp is coming from - is it just the service changing the name?) - not seeing the realtimeguages.txt file transfer though; IE: just the realtime.txt file stuff.

I changed it a bit and see realtimegaugesT.txttmp being created under /CumulusMX/web. This appears to be the correct file as it shows the correct time on the top.

Changed the local file name to : /CumulusMX/web/realtimegaugesT.txt

Now I see it transferring over via the FTP log.

Played a bit with VSPE from Eterlogic.com and also a few other older programs mostly utilized in Wintel (well old for GPS testing stuff) and this and that.

I did also find a linux driver which works with the Wintel VSPE running software. The company now also posts newer Linux clients which is a good thing. Only thing was that this didn't work for me relating to my little project here.

The windows to windows (not specifically for CumulusMX) stuff works.

Here also use Lantronix / Digi USB/serial and Quantech stuff.

My automation boxes today are using up to 16 serial connections and 7 USB connections each (X4).

I do do stuff like utilize SD Radio to get NOAA satellite weather pictures and the Internet for this stuff mostly to play though. Personally always liked playing with satellite stuff. (going back to the 1980's)

Thing is I am mostly moving to the Linux world now for much of my automation stuff and still keeping hardware automation primarily to serial transport while too using the network for virtual automation devices. I have noticed that many of these vendors while supporting Linux didn't really keep their stuff up to date.

IE: Had a conversation with the Quatech folks. Today I utilize 3 X 4 (serial) serial Quatech servers. This company was recently bought out by B&B electronics and the new owners really could care less about supporting Linux and the old stuff they bought as they appear to still be learning about what they purchased (after a few conference calls with them). They still post very old linux drivers which do work with linux from 10 years ago. They have no interest though in updating these old drivers.

The above said just goofing around here I was using a tiny serial two way server for my Russound zoned audio devices (12 zones) for access from two pieces of software (well firmware). Leviton HAI OmniPro 2 and software running on Wintel.

Goofing around I connected this device to the Davis console with a serial cable on it (not a buffered connection) and tried it using one Wintel Server Cumulus connection via a Quatech serial server and another via a USB to serial cable on the RPI2. For whatever reasons it seems to be working fine. I know that there is a buffer on the serial server that allows only one serial port to talk at one time. Kind of mystified now after some 3 days how it continues to work. I have though put the Davis console to sleep once and couldn't wake it up for a bit.

Thank-you Steve. Geez missed that. It didn't change dynamically such that I had to shut down CumulusMX and restart it. This gave me a chance to see if the connection stays up on the tiny serial server. It did and didn't ding Cumulus 1 running on Windows server via the networked Quatech server connection.

Just a quickie update. Here yesterday had a short power outage (5 hours). Mostly everything is on backup.

That said the concoction of the Davis console==> serial cable (no buffer) ==> serial server (splitter) ==>
1 - Quatech serial server ==> Cumulus 1 running on Wintel Server
2 - RPi2 == > Cumulus MX running in Linux

Did take power hits. Both returned to function just fine.

Purchased a second Davis Console here for autonomously connecting a Davis Vantage Pro II in the next few days.

Curious about the diagnostic Davis console data stuff. I enabled it on the RPi2 / Cumulus MX and did start seeing a bunch more stuff in the mxdiagnostic logs.

I also want to take the Davis reception stats to the MySQL DB for some granular watching.

Today turned on debug with my currently utilize serial cable and that made CumulusMX go in to a tail spin and crash (abend) with a bunch of comm errors.

Ordered a new serial buffered data cable today for more testing.

Now using two Davis consoles.

One console will be using the USB buffered datalogger cable and the other console will be utilizing the RS-232 buffered cable to serial server configuration.
