Hi i am thinking of getting one of these as i cant afford a davis with software. Can the watson be mounted in the air in sun. Does it have a radiation shield i dont want it to read 5 degrees higher etc when the sun is out. Any help or advice appreciated. I look foward to hearing from you. Kind regards. An avid weather fan. 8-)

They do have radiation shields, but they tend to be not very effective. While mine was working, I put it in my screen, as even here it read high in the sun. Some people make their own shields from plant pot saucers or similar - there are threads about this somewhere in the forum.

Ok will have to think about it then. I love the davis but i would like to put my station online and with davis i would prefer the ip logger which of course becomes more expensive. I take it the davis is ok in sunlight thats just the vue i was loooking at.

I don't know anything about the Vue, sorry. For the VP2, Davis do an optional fan-aspirated radiation shield for even better performance than the standard radiation shield.

Hi. I have been trawling the net for reviews on weather stations. The one i was going to get was the pro station from maplin which i believe is a clone of the pro 8681 version 2. It costs 179.99. Reviews are mixed as cant get spares etc but what i liked was it runs on wunderground without the extra software. However the reviews of the Davis vue are quite good so I'm still a bit stuck as to what to buy.

I could be wrong but I do not think Cumulus supports this weather station and I believe the PC connectivity it says is present is via Weather Underground not by connecting the station to a PC via USB.

Yes that is true. I dont have a pc so not worried about that side of it but would love to show weather on the net via router. Just not sure whether to go for the budget versiin or get a davis and save up for ip data logger.
