Cumulus Support

hi, I have noticed that the folder MXdiags is creating txt files that are around 18gb in size, what exactly are these files?


im running out of hdd

They are the diagnostic files which help me to solve problems when they arise. Are you saying that the individual files are 18GB, or 18GB in total? Either way, that's a huge amount. Do you have data logging turned on? Can you show me a directory listing with full details, so I can see what's in there?

steve, I deleted the files, which in hindsight probably wasn't a great idea, however after what you said I checked and hat got data logging on, I have turned this off and it seems to have sorted the issue, only a 2gb file now

Are you sure it's 2GB? It should only be a few MB. It's hard to see how it could get to 2GB so quickly if you deleted the files and you're now running without data logging turned on.

Sorry Steve should have made that clearer, the only file it wouldn't let me delete is a 2gb file because it was saying it was in use by cumulus. the size of this file hasn't changed since then,

How did you turn data logging off? If you change the setting via the UI it is only effective for the current session. When you restart it will take it from the setting in Cumulus.ini.

ahh, I didn't restart cumulus, just restarted and the file has deleted successfully, so far so good.

came back to the server this morning and another 2gb file has been created in the space of 12 hours or so, I cant even open the file in notepad because it is too large.


any ideas again??

You have set DataLogging=0 in Cumulus.ini, yes?

yes its set in the ini

Can you extract a section of the file and upload it somehow? If not, restart MX and let it run for half an hour and then zip up and attach the new log file here.

managed to open the file, turns out it was moaning about a section of one of my html pages, fixed the issue and all is good
