Two indoor units reading data, multiple PCs see neither :/

Post by dshroads »

New member of the forum, but longtime user of the software ... I could not find this problem in the readme files nor wiki and the forums.

A WMR-100 clone (RadioShack) station online for about two years with few problems until the outdoor thermometer/hygrometer suddently stopped transmitting. I cleaned it well (sea fog took its toll) and brought it back up fine. The RS indoor base station saw the outside temp/hygro and rain and wind gauge readings (attached picture of base units), but the USB link to the PC suddenly registered zeros in temp and hygro-related fields. (attached screenshot). I first switched the thermo/hygro unit from channel 1 to 2 to 3 with no apparant change in behavior. Then I tried different USB ports, even deleted and reinstalled all the USB drivers. Other USB devices seem fine and I get no errors when I plug the weather station base into the laptop and the device is recognized.

I then swapped out just the base unit for a true WMR-100 base, then the base unit and the USB cable, then the base unit, USB cable, and the temp/hygro unit. The problem remains unchanged from when those were all the RadioShack clone units -- the readings show on the both base units but not on the laptop. I then switched laptops from one Windows 7 to another Windows 7 machine and installed Cumulus and configured -- same problem. Moved to a Windows 8 machine, new install with same problem. I am at a loss as the laptop configuration is what I believe I have used in the past with no problems. Cumulus is installed in its own directory and I cannot see any permissions problem as the logs are written and files updated.

At this point I believe I have eliminated all but the Cumulus configuration and I am unable to find anything wrong there. (screen prints attached)

I am unsure what logs would be useful so zipped and attached latest config, diag, and log files with original names.

Thank you in advance -- this is a curious problem to me after years of no problems.

The console isn't sending any outdoor temperature packets, only indoor ones (channel zero). That temperature and humidity displayed on the WMR100 are the indoor ones (79.5F/40%) - can you definitely get it to display the outdoor values as (presumably) shown on the RS console?

It doesn't seem to be sending any rain packets either.

You also have the PC set to allow it to suspend:

4/8/2015 11:38:55.486 : Windows SUSPEND broadcast received

This will cause other problems.

I am sorry I did not catch that because I must have introduced the problem when I switched from RS to Oregon base. The RS temp/hygro to RS base was acting the same way and I know for certain I tried it on channels 1, 2, and 3 (it is hard-switchable) before I introduced the Oregon base. The RS base now lost everything outside and the WMR-100 base and Cumulus are getting the data fine ...

Thank you, Steve. I will play with this a bit more because I still have no idea what the problem really was.
