So I have now been running Cumulus MX for a while. So far there have been no real issues with MX as far as I can tell. Although I want to give a few heads up for those using Fine Offset.....
First off I ran this via my Server and VMware ESXi using Usb pass through. This made the console reboot quite often and also generated huge unrealistic spikes on solar radiation. So I went a head to investigate further...What I found out after testing is that Fine Offset stations are _VERY_ picky when it comes to supply voltage. I ran my station of a stable server with a PSU of server grade. This didn't seem to be good enough, actually the server did stuff like fluctuating a few milliVolts and also some smaller hiccups probably due to vmware pass through.
So I moved the station onto my DD-wrt router Netgear R7000 and installed this USB over IP software. http://www.virtualhere.com This worked so good I bought a license and moved my Z-wave AND my RFxcom-devices over too. I have now been running this for a week and it has yet to do any rebooting or spiking. Next week I will probably order a USB power amplifier and also a Usb power meter so I can investigate a bit further regarding the voltage issue on this station. But so far I can say bot Cumulus MX and the station seems to like the "virtual USB software"
One reflection is that Cumulus MX is calculating theoretical max a bit lower for Solar radiation than the Cumulus 1.9.4. Since I am now getting my stations values a bit over the theoretical maximum. Maybe up to 10-20% over. What could be the cause? (I haven't touched the default values for solar radiation calculation)
I am utmost thankful for getting the opportunity to be part of this BETA-test!

This has already been noted. MX uses different astronomical libraries - it has to. They presumably use slightly different formulae.xayide wrote:One reflection is that Cumulus MX is calculating theoretical max a bit lower for Solar radiation than the Cumulus 1.9.4.
