VP2 sensor mounting questions?

Well its been a while since I've been here - I've just checked and it was 2012 :o

I joined in 2009 (was it really that long ago?) after I purchased the Watson/Web Offset and happily ran Cumulus for over a year on the first set of batteries.

After they went flat I fitted a new set if Duracells which only lasted 3 months and to be honest I didn't have the heart to climb up on the roof again so soon after being up there and my interest waned.

However I'd like to get back into it and to that end have decided to buy a Davis VP2 - probably the 6163 with 6555 IP Logger.

I have also moved across to Mac but still have a couple of PC's kicking around including a 1U rackmount that I could press into service to use as a Weather server of some sort.

Now when it comes to placement of the sensor array...the old Watson is still mounted to a pole strapped to the chimney and I realise this is not ideal.

When it comes to mounting the Davis array how much difference would it make if I mounted all of the sensors on the chimney?

The reason I ask is because I have no real alternative to mounting the rain and thermometer sensors at a lower level because I live in a standard 3 bedroom semi with an average sized back garden that is surrounded by the house, two 6 feet tall fences and a herd of leylandi reaching up to the heavens which would shield both sensors from the elements.

In addition the house shields most of the garden from the sun until the afternoon and so would affect temperature readings dramatically.

I am thinking mounting the complete sensor array on the chimney would end up being the lesser of two evils but wanted to ask those of you knowledgable on the subject if;

1. that would be a fair assumption

2. it would be deliver decent accuracy

3. there is some sort of adjustment/offset that could be made to improve accuracy

Your help/advice/opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks & kind regards,
