Cumulus hangs from time to time

Post by realdexter »

At least once a week Cumulus hangs and I have to restart the program. After every restart Cumulus will start downloading data from 2007. I have Cumulus connected to my WMR 200.

I've seen similar things from time to time with my WMR200; I don't run it all the time, just for testing. Sometimes the station just stops sending data; restarting Cumulus and going through the start up sequence of asking for archive data seems to get it going again. I've also seen the situation where the station sends very old archive data which Cumulus then has to sift through and discard. It seems that sometimes the station doesn't delete archive data once it's been downloaded, even after it's been downloaded multiple times.

When you say it 'hangs' do you mean it just stops updating, or do you have to use the task manager to kill it?

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll see if I can see anything other than the above.

I have always thougt that it is Cumulus that stops working, but of course it can just as well be the WMR200 that stops sending data.

When it hangs i close the program using X up in the right corner and then restart it and it start uploading data from 2007-02-11 13:00

I have attached the diags folder, hope you can find out what goes wrong

It's not hanging if you can close it like that. The station stops sending data - I can see that you have 'restart if data stopped' set, and in the latest set of logs that's what it keeps doing.

You could try completely clearing the console memory (or even doing a full reset), perhaps if it didn't have those old entries persisting it might behave better.

Make sure you don't have any USB power saving set.

I have made full reset sometime last year, but I will try again. Reset and take out batteries and disconnect console and leave it over the day and then restart and reconfigure.

Hope that will help!

I have just made reset and configured the console and it starts uploading data from 2007-01-31 06:00.

The reset presumably doesn't clear the memory. I found a similar issue with the 'low battery' indications for the remote sensors (e.g. rain gauge) that Cumulus reads. Once it's triggered, there is no way to clear it. I removed the console batteries for several days, and it was still showing low battery on the rain gauge (which had new batteries) when I started it up again.

Have you tried clearing the logger memory manually?

That looks like it's now sending archive entries with all FF in them - or at least in the timestamp section.

Could you please explain how to clear the memory manually?

I'm not sure where my manual is at the moment, I'll have to look for it.

Still can't find my copy of the user manual, so I looked on the Oregon Scientific web site.

To clear records from the base station:
1. Press clock area until DATA LOGGER is displayed.
2. Press and hold MEM.
3. All LED icons will light up and turn off consecutively (right to left). Delete process
is complete and successful after blinking of last icon .

https://ambientweather.wikispaces.com/H ... 200+Memory

Now it starts downloading the right way. Thank you for enlighten me!!

Next step to se is how long it takes before it stops sending data
