A "Rose" by another name.

On the Catalan coast of Spain the wind rose takes on a form all its own. Rather than 'North", "East", etc.. the winds have distinct names such as "Tramuntana", and Garbi. Rather than 8 or16 equal wind quadrants the Catalan "Rose" has nine and each as a different arc. Each of the winds is responsible for distinct weather characteristics. The winds are further broken down by their velocities. For instance the "Tamuntana" at 1 - 7 kph is the "Air de Tramutana", at 8 15 kph it is the "Tramuntaneta", at 16 - 30 kph, the "Tramuntana", at 31 - 60, the "Tramuntanada", and over 61 kph, it is the "Gropada de Tramuntana". The other winds have similar names and some have their own variations.
The Catalan Rose is called the ‘Rose del Vents Empordanesa’ and it embodies the heart, soul, and daily life of the local area well known for its fishing industry and more recently as one of the finest scuba diving sites on the Mediterranean.

The 24 hour "rose" relies on the "D3" charting library. My code is amateur at best and I will warn anyone away from using it as an example. You would do better by learning it and using it properly. At this point I marvel that it works at all. Perhaps I may now start on trying to do it 'right.'
My apologies to Steve and Mark for missing their recent 'betas.' This little project has kept me up late for the past two months.
For the interested this type of chart is called a Polar Area Diagram and is distinct by the fact that both the arcs and the radii may have their own individual values. For the trivia fans it was first used by Florence Nightingale. She developed the "polar-area diagram" to dramatize the needless deaths caused by unsanitary conditions and the need for reform in the British Army. With her analysis, Florence Nightingale revolutionized the idea that social phenomena could be objectively measured and subjected to mathematical analysis. She was an innovator in the collection, tabulation, interpretation, and graphical display of descriptive statistics. Her most famous chart was published in 1858.
I will happily take suggestions and corrections for my two pages (or anything on my site) as long as it is not technically over my head.
