WOW Upload

Post by jdc »

I think I'm being a bit slow here.....

I'm playing around with a WOW upload (to upload soil temp. and moisture) and using phpwebtags to fill the url . It is uploading, but only time, date, wind dir, rel hum and soil moisture are appearing on the observation page, and no result or error is returned - should be '200'. I have tried various units (mph/kn, C/c/f) and removed decimals on wind speed etc.
The template for the url is from the WOW pages.
PC clock is accurate.
Entering the url in a browser address bar produces same result.
Can anyone see what I'm missing?

'echo' of url

Code: Select all

 http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/automaticreading?siteid=10496774&siteAuthenticationKey=******&dateutc=2015-02-27+16%3A20%3A00&winddir=242&windspeedkn=16.3&windgustkn=19.1&windgustdir=238&humidity=80&dewptC=2.0&tempC=5.2&rainmm=0.0&dailyrainmm=0.0&barommbar=1010.55&soiltempC=5.6&soilmoisture=6&softwaretype=jdc1
As a follow on - I get the impression that wow will accept a message with at least one weather parameter, but sending: date, time, id, key , soiltemp, soil moisture only, results in just soil moisture displayed.

You're inventing parameters which don't exist - windspeedkn, tempC etc. You can only use the parameters that are explicitly listed, using the units specified for those parameters. If you have actually tried an update using only the allowed parameters, then the only other suggestion I have is that perhaps you haven't specified in your station settings that you are providing those items.

Thanks Steve, I misunderstood the purpose of the 'standard' and 'alternative' lists. I assumed that units could be configured to coincide with WOW station settings.

I've converted all to of, mph, & ins. and uploads are good. I am only going to send soil conditions 4 times per day as they change so slowly.

Out of interest - why are you doing it manually rather than using Cumulus? If it's so you can upload soil moisture and temperature, how are you converting the Davis soil moisture readings in cb to the percentage required by WOW?

I'm still using and will continue to use Cumulus but decided to send soil conditions. After I started, I carried on with the full upload.

I did a lot of searching for a standard cb to % conversion and didn't come up with much, mainly from USA. I found at my location, on clay land, about 130cb = no moisture in the soil (Yes, I put some in the oven!) and field capacity = 3cb.
So I use a very basic linear conversion. It is primarily for me to compare year on year.

Code: Select all

$soilmoist=round((((127 - $soilmoisture1)/127) * 100),0);
