A tad chilly

Today I'm celebrating 4yrs. of the DavisVP2 Wireless being put into service and(knock on wood) it's been running without a hitch the entire time. Haven't even had to change a battery. I picked up my first version of Cumulus 3 days later and as they say the rest is history, the two have been humming along just fine.(Thanks Steve)

The reason for this post is that we might be celebrating a new record at the station this weekend. It's one that I don't like the prospects of, but hey, it's Winter here in the NE United States.

See the forecast high temperature for Sunday?(-5°F/-22.5°C) Our record low-maximum temp. is 0.2°F set on January 7 2014

Full Forecast

I'll update after we see how it all plays out and I'd be interested to see what other folks in the regions forecasts are.

Happy Friday the 13th(I ain't superstitious)

Brad

Today is Friday the 13th at Port Dover http://www.pd13.com/ also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the ... ycle_rally.

With a high of -10c today the bikers will most certainly wear tops even with some good sunshine.

My low overnight was -19.4c, and -20c expected for the next couple of days as well. But the sun is out now .

Yep, even if we don't set new records, it's still going to be brutal with the winds.

From the satellite maps I've seen, Lake Ontario still isn't frozen over, you still getting Lake Effect?
Erie froze over about a month or so ago, right around the first of the year and yet I've still recorded 42" of snow. Can't imagine what it would be like if Erie wasn't frozen over.

Hunker down and stay warm. 8-)

Do you partake in that event Paul?

Looks like you will have a high around -17°C (1.4°F) for Sunday. What's your record 'low-maximum'.

An article in today's (Feb 13) Ottawa Sun newspaper

The city is cooking up what might be a record-breaking month for mean temperatures — in every sense of the word.

If current trends continue — and it appears they will — Ottawa will approach a 1979 record for lowest mean temperature of -14.3C recorded at the airport where stats go back to 1938.

The recordings at the Experimental Farm go back even further but we won’t come anywhere close to breaking the record there which stands at -20.7C set in 1934.

By all accounts, 1934 was hell-on-Earth. It was -38C on Feb. 17 that year. In fact, there were 15 days in February 1934 when the temperature was -30C or colder.

Lowest maximum of -17.2 was last year in January http://www.komokaweather.com/mysql/top_10.php so that could get broken.
Do you partake in that event Paul?
Noooo way!

Yep, same day as my low-max temp and real close to the same temp for both of us.

You have a couple of different forecasts on your main page and the 'upper' one is sort of pointing to a new record low-max for you on Sunday. Looks like we're all socked in together on this one.

All the Best

Here in Syracuse, New York... February 2015 is in the record books as officially the Coldest month Ever! (113 yrs)
February 2015 9.0 F
February 1934 12.1 F (old record)

1st month ever to not rise above 32°F once.
Local News Story
The airport is approx 7.5 miles NE, Elev:421 ft
My station sits at Elev:642 ft, a couple of hundred feet in elevation can make quite a difference in temperatures, thus the airport recorded some record cold temps.

My station's mean temp was:
Mean Temp 12.9°F
Consecutive Days below 32°F (28)
Days with lows below 0° (9)

My data: Here
