Dashes displaying for Sunset time....

Post by Bruiser »

This is with Cumulus 1.8.8 build 850. Any idea why no time would be listed for sunset?? Dusk time, Day length, etc displays fine though...

By the way...My Latitude and Longitude settings are indeed correct..Same values as before I noticed any issues with Sunset time...

Someone else had the same problem recently, but we didn't get to the bottom of it, it just 'went away'. Cumulus would display dashes if there was a problem calculating the time, but I don't know what would cause that.

Could you cut and paste your longitude and latitude from cumulus.ini, and tell me what timezone your computer is set to, please?

Lat and Long from Cumulus.ini :

Latitude=39.6913888888889
Longitude=-84.2061111111111

My Time Zone is (GMT-5) Eastern Time....

Thanks Steve for looking into it.

It is not really a big deal but I was curious...

I can reproduce that. There's a bug somewhere in the sunset calculation. Which is a shame as the code is absolutely horrendous. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to work out sunrise and sunset times from latitude and longitude, even using library routines. It's the conversion from UTC to local time and working out whether that's the same day or not that makes it hard. Anyway, I'll try to work out what the bug is.

I am glad at least you were able to reproduce it.

Sorry it is a pain. Don't drive yourself nuts with it as it is personally no big deal.

I know you likely will not listen to that though as I work in IT and can never seem to let go of troubleshooting an issue no matter how insignificant it is :)

Thanks for you efforts as always Steve.

I have a fix for this. I'll upload it tomorrow if it seems to be working OK for me.

I think it depends on a combination of the time of day where you are, your offset from UTC, and exactly when sunset is. And probably whether or not it's a public holiday ;)

The new version seems to be working OK for me, so I'll upload it shortly.
